the good the bad and the sensible

Featured Replies

The Good:

Thought id just let you guys know im having my octavia vrs mk1 remapped 2moro at stealth racing with the forge dump valve.... Vince really seems to know what he is on about and cant wait to see the difference in performance :D

The Bad:

Couple months ago i was trying to show off to a mate and wheel spin all the way down my road...unfortuanly forgetting to turn off traction control!(STUPID) As you can imagine the smell of the clutch was lovely when i pulled up and since have had allsort of problems getting it in gear while driving / when stationary... progressily worse!

so with the remap booked iv also had the pleasure of fixing my mistake with a new clutch/flywheel to be installed just prior to the remap also at SR at a cost of #632 that will teach me!

The sensible:

New EBC greenstuff brake pads to be fitted to the front and new standard pads to the rear

Its gonna be an all day job but will be nice having the extra power being able to get in gear cleanly and pull up on a dime

:D :D :D :D :D

But i could think of better ways of spending 1200!

Hmmm, no comment :rotz:

that'll learn ya.

I would put this in with the bad. Green stuff really are poo imho. They fade far too quickly, create loads of dust and just don't last. I run Tar Ox .401 compound, not particularly cheap at around £100 a set, but you can't put a price on knowing that when you press that middle pedal, you know your gonna stop!

Surely you should be going for EBC Redstuff brake pads not Green!

Especially if your vRS is not going to be standard!

Or sack EBC off all together and go for DS2500s.

got to agree mate do not put greenstuff pads in they are beyond poor the will not cope with the vrs and they are pants and the reds are just as bad really would get some others or stay standard as the standard one are better than green stuff pads FACT :o

Either Ferodo 2500s or Mintex Extremes (if they still do them) and some good quality 5.1 brake fluid

hey guys thanks for the replys....shame i didnt check it earlier or post it sooner as i have had the greenstuff pads put on.

The day was half successfull and half annoying!!

the successfull

clutch /flywheel is all done and now my car drives amazingly better..no more double clutching...and the pads were all fine

the annoying

the discs were all knackered! so had to get new ones all round and keeping with the EBC theme put EBC discs on the front. And while doing the remap we discovered that the turbo boost valve is also knackered....it gives up the boost at 4000rpm which is annoying also!

so its back in next week to have the new valve fitted and finishing off the remap.

having said all that its still noticably faster now and cant wait for the finished product :D

although the extra cost is abit of a dampner!

i would seriously consider removing the pads for different ones mate as they will not cop especially with a remap.... it will be dangerous mate:O

bite the bullet and change the last thing you want is a crash as these brakes are pants i even had them on a rover 25 1.4 and theyt struggled with that:mad:

I used them once on my Rover 214 with EBC discs and every time I gave some beans, the pedal would hit the floor after a couple of miles and the discs would be glowing bright red!

Excuse me being the dunce of the group but, why would trying to do a burnout with the ASR on kill the clutch? Surely it would just be the worlds crappest wheelspin :P

the whole point of ASR is to stop the wheels from spinning.. ;) I had a golf mk3 vr6 before and never had the same problem, only because it didn't have traction control lol

Iv spoke to vince from SR and he didn't seem to concerned and it was his suggestion to put the EBC discs on the front. I'm gonna keep the faith and hope you guys arnt proved right.

Other question is I'm running the car on Goodyear eagle f1 tyres all corners, what's the best pressure for them?

EBC disks are ok, its the greenstuff pads you really need to be concerned about. Do a search on here to find some horror stories of how bad they really are.

Yeah I get that bit but I thought all it did was cut the ignition to cut the power? I can't see how this would destroy a clutch?

if he kept dipping the clutch when it almost died you would eventually over heat it from all the slipping at high revs and fook it.

i wish i was as cool as you...

A good job you don't live in my road. I was annoyed by an IDIOT who thought it was cool to wheelspin in the road - with no regard for neighbours/ kids etc... Honda Civic with a big bore exhaust.

One night I was walking past his car with a can of epoxy expanding foam gap filler. Somehow I slipped and fell over and in a terrible accident the tube from the can of filler went about 2 feet up his tailpipe. Then to make matters worse in my efforts to prevent injury to myself I managed to squirt a load of it up his exhaust. This was about 2.00am I would guess. Unfortunately by the time he returned to his vehicle it had set rock hard. Oh dear, I felt terribly guilty when I saw the breakdown truck.

Whilst I can understand the annoyance I think a quiet work in his ear would have been a better course of action than vandalising his car.

A couple of years back I was having the crappest of days and in a release of frustration I did a bit of a tyre smoker off my drive. Stupid, yes. Worthy of my car getting messed with, not really.

:iagree:

We can all be cowardly and damage someones property in the dead of night but I prefer to have a word to express my displeasure rather than resort to that kind of thing, diplomacy normally does the trick. I wouldn't like it if someone did this to my car and would probably be baying for blood :thumbdwn:

I managed to get a set of Ferodo 2500s on Ebay a few weeks ago for the amazing price of £14... I have always used Ferodo or Mintex and none other.
