Octy back - tailgate resprayed

Featured Replies

Well I got my car back yesterday afternoon, and have a chance to look it a bit more closely and it looks a bit like a Blue Peter sticky back-plastic job.

Previous the bodyshop has told me I needed to pay for a new plastic trim and the painting of it, but it appears they have used my old one. The reason for needing a new trim was the gasket had degraded on it - apparently, causing the paint loss I had experience. On a plus note the rust bubble that had some back seems to have vanished again. From feeling the paitwork, it seems the just the lower section was treated, as up by the high-level light is not so shiny and smooth.

Left end of the trim, with clear plastic "slip"

Dirt under the trim (thus it is my old one!)

Rusty old screws

Plastic "slip" at the right hand end

Trim on central around the lock this time.... well done!

Number plate not stuck on very well

Rust under the bottom egde of the boot

Scuffed internal trim

Scuffed lock

Where the rust bubble was, and is no more.... :)

Not a perfect job by any means, but could be worse. They have also got the rear wiper on straight this time around as well.

I am a little concerned by the clear plastic bits, they seem to be stuck down, so if they remain then it should be ok, but if they lift and dirt gets under it, then it could be even worse than before. Car covered about 1.1 miles - I never knew the bodyshop carpark was that big!

surely they should have got rid if the other rust spot as well, if not it'll just have to go back soon enough.

I took my 52 estate into my local stealer for photographs yesterday, so will know the results in a couple of weeks.

If you're not happy about the finish, then I for one would be back wanting it done properly - same with the mileage; your car is there to be repaired, not as a shopping car for the works' lunch run and thrashed on a cold turbo.

I'll chase the bodyshop up on a few things next week when I am back at work, plus the office will be quieter due to most people being in leave due to having kids!

Hope you get a good result from your dealer photographs.

The snag is Skoda say the warranty is the original one, and does not restart from the when the job was done, and I believe that I am now outside that window. However if i was paying then I would be well hacked off - which is the route I took last time.
