How to mod the Drivers Seat?

Featured Replies

Pootelling about in the garage loaner this week, a P reg Polo.

The seat has a mechanism where you pull a handle and it can be moved up or down, but as it does so the back of the seat base moves at a higher ratio to the front.. with the highest setting giving a high flat seat base, and the lowest giving a low slanted seat, more of a bucket.

I like it, lol.. any way of just highering the front of the vRS standard seat an inch or so safely?

Rob.

Buy a set of recaro's...........

Or fit Polo seats.

That mechanism you describe is fitted as standard on my Fabia 1.9TDi Elegance.

And it is excellent!

04 Comfort is like this. The problem with the bucket position is that the seat isn't a bucket, so the front ridge digs into your leg just enough to restrict circulation and become uncomfortable.

Does that mean it might be possible to get the seat base from a comfort scrapper and switch it out? I did had a 2001 Elegance but it was like the vRS.. just went up and down, no rake adjustment... Hmmmm.

I'm not really after the complete bucket position though, just somewhere in-between to hold me in the seat a little better.

Maybe one of these would be cheaper and easier Welcome - CG-Lock EU - enhancing safety and enjoyment of your vehicle.

I got one for SWMBO to hold her in her SDI. She got car sick as the driver on long journeys. She's tall and slim with long legs so gets thrown around easily in a flat seat. This seems to hold her well, so no sliding about to tire muscles, better control and keeps the back into the seat, so no backache. Works well. No complaints and no sickness. Might seem expensive at first glance but very cost effective. I'd like one myself.. in fact.. clicks on link... wait let's try fleabay first.

I'm pretty sure that the latest EVO magazine has these as a "recommended" product for track days and they include a discount code to get £5 or £10 (i can't remember which right now) off when ordering one direct.

oh and nice way to shoe horn in reference to a tall thin leggy other half ;)

That looks like a great product, but it's not really what I'm after, it's not that I get thrown around, I just find a slight tilt more comfortable.

Also, I can't help but wonder how tight it all goes if the belt pre-tensioner gets triggered?

It might be possible to spacer up the front of your current seat's subframe if all you want is the front edge raising half an inch or so. It would need someone who actually has a Furbie and understands what I meant to investigate further though.

I get what you mean Ken, Only problem I can see with that is releasing the backwards forwards mechanism and sliding backwards unexpectedly. Your thinking the same way I was when I posted the thread.

Oh, wait.. do you mean spacing up in-between the sponge seat base the the frame? That might work.. Hmmmmm..

I'm intrigued by the lower spec Fabias having this mechanism like the 6N Polo though, I thought they were all the same and just went up and down?

The worries about pre-tensioners and CG locks seem to have been answered but I'm not sure myself just how it all works - I'll take the techies word for it.

To the original question - if it is for one driver (no constant adjustment) need the seat frame rise? Could you get the effect you want with a foam horseshoe around the top of the seat at the front. It could be held in place by elastic or velcro. If you've seat covers then it will be held in and invisible.

The seat subframe is the bit that's bolted to the bodyshell. If you spacer that, the seat sliders are untouched, and go up with everything else!

Yeah, That's what i mean, if you lift that up at the front it'll put the sliders on a angle, won't it? Unless I'm missing something here and the slider are part of the shell, not the subframe?

In reply to the foam horse shoe? nice idea but I don't fancy the look off it.

Gunna have a look under the seat and investigate how the foam seat base is attached to the frame.. perhaps just the foam can be lifted at the front on top of the frame.

Yeah, it's for one driver.. meeee! :D
