Ouch! and the detailing bug bites again!

Featured Replies

Well after spending a few months reading up on products and speaking to Baker21 I purchased a fair few products (mainly meguiars) and spent a day cleaning.

2 week and a set of alloys later I touched up some missed areas and gave her another good clean and these are the results

I have a question though. Both mine and the GF's car's have swirls (her's more than mine) and I was wondering what the best product to use to remove them by hand - I don't fancy forking out £100+ on a dual action polisher.

Can't see the pics yet - but the question about swirls was discussed recently in another thread....

The general consensus is Swirl-X to remove or Autoglym Super Resin Polish (SRP) to mask - but either will require a lot of effort and still not will give the results of a DA polisher

Now I see them...........:)

Loving the wheels and the colour of them, looks like a good choice IMHO..............

Nice shine on the paintwork any chance of letting us know what you used?

The process I used is as follows

1. Dual bucket wash with a lamb mitt

2. Meguiars smooth clay kit

3. ScratchX to remove some scratches

4. Wax with the small wax kit that comes with the smooth kit

5. Wax with Nxt Gen Wax

Unfortunately I poorly attempted to clean my back box with the Nxt Gen metal polish but think I need to give it a better clean next time before attempting that. Also Meguiars promot that all Nxt gen and classic wax's are clear drying - true - however the wax that comes with the smooth kit isn't. So when I came to clean it again a few weeks later and add the wheels I made sure the white bits stuck in the trim and edges were removed. I also had to remove a few feathers from my grill (as I hit a pigeon on the way home the other day :(). Once the car was dry I went over it with the quick detailer.

Interior (sorry no pics yet) was vac'd then I used Meguiars Leather 2 in 1 to treat my seats, wheel, gear knob and hand brake.

Really pleased with my self plus I dunno about anyone else but the meguiars products smell great! :D

Sounds like a Megs sponsored clean then mate and all credit to you.............:)

Waxes, whether clear drying or not, will always leave some white residue in some shape or form and the I think your referring to the Wax Cleaner that comes with the Megs Quik Clay kit......

The Megs products do smell great but then so do other brands, they all have that sweet shop smell..........:P

Good bite! :)

You never have any money when you have the detailing bug............:(

Silverline do a DA for £39 and a full blown rotary for the same money. The Bosch PEX400AE will also do the job, although it is £80

quick answer, you wont be able to by hand, i struggled the other week with my machine polisher and some pretty heavy cut compound !

best thing to do is to try and mask them using products which have fillers in them, such as Poorboys White Diamond / Black Hole or Auto Glym Super Resin

Looking great matey!

Now go out and buy some lowering springs!
