1.6TDi Launch

Featured Replies

Hi all,

the 1.6TDi has just been made available to order in Germany since yesterday. The 1.9TDi will now be discontinued.

Full spec on the engine can be found at

Skoda Auto Deutschland GmbH

Seemingly the same price as the 1.9TDi.

Wonder when it'll be available for ordering in the UK?

Update

Just heard that the 1.6TDi with 7 Speed DSG will be available to order as of 01/09/09 in Germany

thanks

Interesting also to see the different spec/engine combinations opared to the UK:

it seems Germany still has the 1.6 mpi petrol between the 1.4 and 1.4tsi, and the 1.8 is available with dsg in Ambiente (SE in UK) and Elegance spec (L&K only in UK)

No probs Helix.

They have completely different specs within their range as well. Things like fog lights throughout the range, ESP and rear parking sensors standard through the range from Ambient, equiv SE in UK & heated seats and multi-dot from Elegance.

However, UK spec has other things instead and due to the value of pound/euro, it's a lot cheaper buying a UK spec as well.

Is there a translation

@skippy41

Checked this out and although I can't seem to get that actual page translated, you can visit the google translation page and get around it.

Go to Language Tools

Scroll down to "Translate a web page" and change the language to German. Then enter the URL for skoda.de and click on translate.

This will take you to Skoda's German site, rather than the direct link which is given. Click on "Showroom" at the top, then on the next page "Octavia". Google has then translated the hatchback to "Sedan" and estate to "Combi", so choose which one you need. Then click on "datasheet"

This will then show the data for the straight forward 1.4. Unfortunately, google doesn't work with the drop down menu for selecting the 1.6TDi. However, you could then open a second tab in your browser and input the URL I gave in the original post for the 1.6TDi. This would then come up in German, but you would be able to compare the various details from the translated 1.4 page, working out the exact spec figures.

Forgot to add click on datasheet

Top speed 190 kph

0-100 km/h 11,8 sec

Ubran 5,7 l/100km

Extraurban 3,9 l/100km

Combined 4,5 l/100km

CO2 119 g/km

62.8 mpg combined / 72.4 extraurban. Decent figures. Performance is certainly adequate on paper too. Now they just need to bring a Greenline out to bring it under 110g/km to make it even more attractive to businesses (100% corporation tax write-down from 110g and under).

Thats what I was trying to find:thumbup: but thats factory figures you could easily loose about 10 mpg in the real world, what BHP are they

105bhp, same as 1.9TDi

So a 1.6 105 bhp with better fuel consumption with common rail, will have to have a shot in one when they come over here

The 1.6 also has the same torque figures, only at different rpms.

The powerdelivery of the 1.6 will be a bit more "boring" as it will deliver its power smoother than the good old 1.9 PD.

and you have to put up with the awful looks of the facelift. Rear isn't so bad, but the front is an abortion, looks too modern for the rest of the car which looks dated in comparison to the front.

To be fair Ive seen a few round here of the facelift and it looks quite decent. each to their own

I wonder how long it will be before these things arrive in the UK. Later this summer?

Really interested in buying one.

And this is exactly the same as the 1.6L TDi they're putting into the Mk6 Golf and the forthcoming 2009 Polo, isn't it?

I've ordered mine last weekend, will get it in sept on a '59' plate

Cor, so they're available to order over here already?

Interesting that the Skoda UK website still makes no mention of it.

Are they normally slow to update it?

Yes, the site is cack.

Couple of points....

The 1.6MPi is available on the Octavia facelift if you wanted it and the 1.6CR is slightly more expensive than the 1.9TDi.

Well, they've finally updated the Skoda UK website, and they're now listing it for the Octavia.

Haven't looked for it in the Superb yet, but I see it's not listed on the Fabia.

The Greenline Octy only seems to have marginally better fuel economy and emmissions.

Has anyone bought one of these 1.6 CR diesels yet?

Yes, the Greenline Octavia really is a load of nonsense. The range is lumbered with the stupid thing now until they can get around to revising it such that the CO2 drops to 110g/km, when it will actually have a selling point.

I went to a dealers in torquey they other day and got a broacher I was in to see a Columbus or mdf3 working but he had none fitted the 1.6 crd does allegedly between 49 and 72 MPG will confirm this when her indoors returns with the caravan as the broacher is in it

My 1.9 105 tdi got me home on half a tank 432 miles:thumbup:did anyone see me down in Devon the black one with skippy on the taxi sign saw plenty of different versions on the A38

What Car's report on the 1.6 CR TDi was not too impressive on their test of the forthcoming Polo . Although they praised its economy they stated, quote:-

" However the most disappointing aspect is the amount of diesel clatter at idle. With their harsh-edged rattle and fair bit of vibration through the pedals, these new engines aren't as refined as those found in the Renault Clio. Things are better at speed , though"

I do wonder if these reviewers have something in for VAG... AutoExpress moan constantly about the VAG clatter but some of the other 'refined' dervs they refer to I do wonder! The dervs in the Mundano clatter like nobodies business!

Just waiting for the CR 143 now.....

Are these likely to be available below £12-13k anytime soon?

Second-hand, obviously! :)

But yeah, people always moan about the noise of VW diesels, and I've never been able to understand what the fuss is all about. Even the outgoing 1.9PD TDI was heaps better than the old Ford Endura diesels in the Mondeo pre-2000 or thereabouts.

I reckon this 'refinement' thing they go on about is really just based on how much sound insulation there is between the engine and the passengers. I test drove a Focus diesel a while ago and the engine was uncomfortably loud when I started it with the doors open, but sounded about normal from inside the car with the doors closed.
