I see this from autocar

Autocar - New diesel for Audi A3

No stop-start for Skoda, I guess they have to keep price high of the A3 high for a reason!

Hopefully when the oct mk3 is out we will get.

James

That A3 1.6CR with stop-start and regen braking makes the Octavia Greenline look even more stupid.

Does anyone know for sure if this new 1.6 diesel has a chain or belt driven camshaft?

Biggest thing putting me off VAG diesels is cost of maintenance in the long term - cambelt changes in particular.

Its only £200 every 65K for a new belt, or £230 with a metal water pump included fully fitted

There are hardly any manufacturers using chains now, for petrol or diesel

I dont know where you get yours done Skippy, but its considerably more at an official dealer - usually £300+ and the belts are currently specced at 40,000 miles/4 years I believe. All new VW TSi engines are now maintenance free camchain.

I got mine done at Graham P Chathams in Edinburgh a Skoda dealer, changed at 65K or 4 years

@Skippy

Are saying 65K KMs Skippy, which would be 40,400 miles?:confused:

No, probably 65,000 miles.

Our H-reg Fiesta has had at least two cam belt changes, and still with <100k miles on the clock.

Have they become more durable on newer engines?

Oh, and has anyone driven a car with one of these new 1.6TDi engines in them yet?

New 1.6CR has the handy feature of £35 road tax as well :D which again makes the greenline all but useless.......bring in stop start and it maight make sense...

Still, got 84.9 mpg out of my Fabia greenline this morning! :)

65,000 miles K means thousands in roman:D

Most are moving back towards chains again...

I love a bit of pedantry ....

K = kilo = Greek for Thousand

M = mille = Roman for thousand

Erm, anyway ... back to the topic

1.6 common rail diesel ... might be tempted myself

Had my 1.9TDI Elegance serviced this week and was in conversation with the salesman, true to his profession he tried to sell me a new car. He was talking about the new 1.6 and I have to confess I was interested but I can't find anyone with first hand experience of the new engine. I will watch this thread with interest.

Yes, I'm also interested. But it would appear that no-one else on here has one yet. :(

We should be getting a demo some point in sept/oct... (depending on when the factory deided to build it!) so will let you know:)

I think a lot of people are waiting for a review of this, so a lot will be looking forward to it.:thumbup:

Has anyone at all driven a 1.6TDI CR in the Octavia ? I am really keen to discover if the new engine is suitable for the size of the Octavia. I am about to order a new company car and hanging on for as long as possible before deciding until someone can comment on this new engine. I can't even get a drive of it in a Golf or an A3 . All the dealers I have been to local to me do not have one to demo.
