Chester Zoo pics

Featured Replies

Took the Panasonic FZ28  to Chester Zoo today.

Oh, and wife and daughter came along too :D

Overcast day, sun finally appeared at 4.45 (Zoo closes at 5pm)

1050 pics ( 2 movies at 80 MB) = 3.3 GB , around 12 pics with flash, and the battery still had charge :eek:

Took a monopod which I was very glad of as light quality was so poor that many of the pics (at 100 ISO) were only 1/10 second. Still, of all those pics, I reckon a good 50+ % percent were keepers - the rest were mostly down to my poor compostion skills or excessive blurring due to poor light and hence low shutter speeds. Oh, and some were taken through netting or glass. I suppose I could have used the Intelligent ISO and had some better 'backlight' shots but didn't want to lose the piccy quality trading off against increased shadow noise. I also took the Olympus 1.7x tele-extender lens but ended up not using it after the first hour as most of the animals were close enough for the standard 18x zoom.

None have been edited, enhanced, cropped, whatever...........just resized to 25%

Oh, and for anyone going you can still get cheaper tickets from Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village (Car Park C, Food Hall, Information desk) - saved £4 each, and valid until December. Ring 151 348 5600 and enquire to be on safe side.

You should worry - took spare battery pack and extra 4GB card so could have taken probably another 1300 :P

Good job getting the red panda - every time I've been to a zoo it's always been virtually out of sight at the top of a tree.

Love the shot of the otter applauding you !

We were lucky as they began feeding them.

I love otters full stop :D

Some nice pics there Val. Do you have any more to share with us? :)

Computermebob. Simples.

Some good pictures there :)

Nice

Is that a red panda? Or maybe there are different varieties of red panda? I ask because the one I took a photo of (in China) has a really fluffy tail that's thick till then end.

Nice pics

Got any good Penguin shots?

Pigwins rawk.

Nice pics

Red panda indeed. Cute as sin

Just looking back at the piccy I see what you mean. All the other shots show the tails being bushy  at the base but tapering down.

Unfortunately not - they were all in the pool - and too many people in the way.

You, Mr Len, are very naughty :P

I'll email the other 999 at 3.5MB each to you shortly.

On quite a few of the pics I took of them the tails are bushy. I thought maybe when relaxed / stationary the tails appeared like rat's tails but tis not so on further investigation (as in 2nd piccy).

Male female difference maybe ?

More - but some have been tweaked, some have 'bloom' from being shot through netting or glass.
