Featured Replies

Picking up my new Silver Octy RS on Wednesday 29th sept...can't wait tbh.

Extras: Zenons, ESP, clifford Cat 1

Mods (all carried out by JBS autodesign on behalf of Skoda i.e warranty intact :) )

Engine remap

Milltek SS exhaust

Highflow cat

Uprated fuel pump

Uprated Dump valve

lowered suspension

Was gonna get a brand new one as I liked it in black but I saw a used black one and the stone chips looked a bugger. I then saw this one which was more expensive (

I didn't know that the mods could be dealer appoved? Sounds like a cool car trying to talk the wife into swapping our mondeo.. she doesn't want us to be the Skoda family as we have a Furby VRS

Welcome :wave23d:

Have fun !

I didn't know that the mods could be dealer appoved?

Dealers can say & do anything they like, whether Skoda would agree is a different matter. This is why we try not to name "mod-friendly" dealers on the board.

Welcome Ic3man, and enjoy the car

Oops point taken ;)

Still a damn good place to buy a Skoda tho (or a mitsubishi!) as it was actually a mitsubishi salesman (joint dealers I think) that sold me the car.

3 days and counting :)

Well done on your purchase. I'm sure you will enjoy.

Get confirmation in writing from the dealer that the Skoda warranty will be honoured in full, and then keep your fingers crossed that the dealer keeps their Skoda franchise for the next 3 years. (I presume you have read the SkodaAuto warranty - a copy of which is here?

Being as it was GL (Skoda dealer) who purchased the mods and had them fitted to the demonstrator and the car was actually advertised as a 'tuned for further performance!' vehicle on there website, I can't see that there would be a problem with any warranty issues as they surely would not have a legal leg to stand on (Being as THEY modified the vehicle, THEY said the remainder of the Skoda warrenty IS applicable even though it had been modified). I do however appreciate that Skoda may/maynot honour the warranty but GL would most definately have to (I think?). They guys at GL seemed a decent bunch (and not just because I was buying a car) so I reckon they were straight up with me but I will however check with them when I pick the motor up on wednesday, sound advice m8, thx. Has anyone else been in the same situation with a dealer 'modifying' a car then refusing to honour any warranty on it?

I agree that you are on much stronger ground given that the dealer is selling you a car already modified by/for them. My advice on written confirmation stands, and at worst the dealer will have to pick up the tab for any repairs/replacements if SkodaAuto UK won't pay up. Let us know how you get on. :)

I agree with Denis on the mods grounds.

Welcome to Briskoda Ic3man

Ic3man,

You have a PM.

Thank God I found this site...you guys are so helpful.

I will get a 'written' warranty...although I'm not sure how to go about this as they would just give me the standard one no?(which takes a harsh tone to mods). Should I accept a dealer warranty if offered or insist that SKODA not GL should warrant my vehicle (as it has 2.5 yrs left on it)?

I'm saying this as I presume most dealers will word there warranties along the same lines as the manufacturers (no mods) and for them to reword the warranty without it being approved by some higher source would not be worth the paper it was written on.

In short how can they warrant my car with mods inc if the standard warranty dosn't allow? e.g if I took my car elsewhere for repair under warranty...would they honour it?

Forgive me for sounding dumb...but this is the first time I've bought a modified motor 'under warrenty'.

if I took my car elsewhere for repair under warranty...would they honour it?

Unless the mods are sanctioned by Skoda UK I doubt they would honour a Skoda UK warranty.......if the dealer said they would give you a warranty then I assume that it is only with the dealer So, if you went to another dealer the upshot is that they would not do any warranty work for you.

Obviously this is not gospel and just my personal opinion.

I picked the Octy up today and O M F G  I just can't stop :D

The warranty issue is also resolved with the dealer ammending my warranty (written) to include the modifications that have been installed by the dealer which will be posted shortly.

The traction control/esp has been put through its paces with a sprint through the twisty peak district (lol @ st170 focus..scalp no#1). The mpg is averaging 20 but that comes with the lead boots I've been wearing today :). One minor niggle I've had is that the alarm sometimes seems to arm itself when I come to a stop and will not turn off until I get out of the car arm/disarm and get back in...anyone else had this problem with the clifford 650? I ask because I havn't had time to read the manual...to busy driving :P

Thx for the advice again guys.
