low windscreen wash fluid

Featured Replies

apparently if you have a Vrs *without* maxidot then there is no indicator on the dashboard to show you're low on windscreen wash fluid? how bizarre....

...there still isn't, even if you do have maxidot - it's one of a few very minor annoyances on my otherwise excellent vrs.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that you will have the light if your car was built on the 3rd thursday of a month beginning with "J", or something equally mystical.. maybe someone will elaborate... :o

Think you have to have xenon headlights to get the low washer fluid light. I have them but I haven't had the car through a winter yet - so not run it down that far yet !

I would rather be without it!!! Once it is tripped the damned thing keeps falsing at you every few minutes. Truly great if you have no spare fluid on board and you are driving in the dark.

My VBF is slowly filling up with all the things that I feel I need to stop warning lights!!

As peanut says

The only time you get a Low Washer Fluid warning is if you have Xenons

I tried enabling it on my vRS as i have maxidot and no Xenons (well i do but they are an aftermarket kit) Subsequently the maxidot constantly told me my Wash Fluid was low even when it was full to the top as there is no sensor in the bottle.

I think it actually depends on whether you have the headlight washers rather than Xenons doesn't it?

Can you spec the car with headlight washers and no Xenons?

If so then that may be the case. i didnt know that the could be seperated. It certainley wasn't an option in 2007 when i bought my vRS

Yep I have factory fit Xenons and retrofitted Maxidot and my level warning works. Don't think it did on my old dash though.

My 2005 Elegeance has low washer indicator (Maxidot was a factory fitted option) and headlamp washers (standard on elegance) but no Xenons.

Its easy to run low on washer fluid during the winter as the headlamps get washed every 5th time you use the windscreen washer and it seems to use plenty.

Factory fit xenons have to come with a self-levelling mechanism and headlamp washers, both to reduce glare for oncoming traffic. It's a legal requirement to have both and the main reason why aftermarket xenons are an MOT failure - although most testers turn a blind eye !

In Germany the VRS has xenons as standard. But I know that if you want the low washer indicator you should at least have the headlightwashers (on all Octavia² ).

I think it's easy enough to sort.

Didnt Stu's site have a guide for adding the missing sensor and float? The connector is already there on the harness.

The option with the headlight washers comes with a bigger washerfluid container. Dont know whether that will fit. But if it does you could add one.

Yep, here you can anyway. The prices are listed seperately for both on the extras list.

Got one on mine for some reason or other must have been one of the first ones built ???

mine has it and xenons, but by the time it warns you of low fluid you getting the hint through the washers by the way its spraying (or lacking).

Maybe a way it's set up, I never found that when the light has been on mine for low fluid.

IIRC the empty message shows when less than 1L remaining.

There's around 1L left after filling from a 5L ready mix bottle when I've filled the car with the warning on.

my VRS has the warning but no Xenons

My Scout has no Xeons, but does have headlamp washers like the L&K and I have the maxidot warning, very handy as its always the thing I forget to check. Although my washer fluid was nearly full when i took it for service yesterday and they still charged me £1.69 plus vat to fill it up:mad: Another black mark for my local stealer:thumbdwn:

had similar at a vauxhall dealer years ago, topped it up before i took it in, guess they squirt the windscreen first to check the washers are working and suprise suprise the level has dropped so £1.69 for a container of screenwash which still has 99% of the contents still left in the bottle (they cant use it again they claim).

You must only get them then with Headlight Washers

I have found a tutorial for installing the Headlight Washer sensor from a German Tutorial site... the only problem is, it is all in German.
