AM, Medium wave signal in Fabia's !!

Featured Replies

:) I have just done a deal getting a vRS this week, px'ing my TDi. Found a dealer who would give me my asking price for my 2 year old TDi. I was amazed at the different values different Skoda dealers would put on my low mileage TDi. Anyway job done ;)

However. I have never been able to get AM on the radio, in this car, OR the 1.4 I had before, Yesterday my big bad brother, who also owns a vRS asked me how you get medium wave, (AM) on his radio. He cannot get it either, although we are in a good reception area etc. And yes, both radios have AM switch gear.

Is it us, or are all the radio's out of the skoda factory bad with AM signal !!

I find the OE radios fine for MW, but aftermarket ones terrible without a booster. I have DAB so I don't need the AM anyway.

Are these headunits that are not getting AM original skoda headunits. If not you need to put a booster in the aerial cable because the oem skoda unit powers a booster in the antenna. Aftermarket headunits are unable to do this, you may also find FM reception improves after the booster is added.

Trotts...what a crackin' name! :D why does very hot curry spring to mind!

Welcome fellah and apologies for my wayward hand on here!

Booster cables, DAB, boosters in antenna, headunits,

All I do is press the A/F button, hold it pressed for approx 2 seconds, and hey presto 5 Live and all the other medium wave programes.

I've had mixed AM reception on my Fabias. The first one (2000 1.4 MPi) was great while the second Fabia (2002 1.4 16v) was dreadful from new and made worse by the dealer when they repaired the wiring loom. They could have fixed it at my expense!!!

The vRS I've got now has great reception, although it took me a minute or so to realise I had to hold down the AM/FM button. Not too keen on that as I often drive outside the FM range of my favouite radio station. In fact it often gets left on MW for most of the week.
