Nitrous Oxide

Featured Replies

Does anyone here own a car with nitrous or knows anyone does?

What size nitrous jets should be used on a vRS? I was thinking 90bhp? What stress would be placed on the engines? What prepartions should be done to prolong the engine under nitro. and basically is it worth it???

The GTI guys are running wet kits, mostly from NX. You really don't need to do anything to the car up to like 75hp. Just plug in the nitrous, and that's it. If you have other mods beyond a chip, exhaust, and intake, you should watch your timing retard (VAG-Com required).

I'll be going with a Stage I Basic EFI Wet kit from NX, 20716-923 with a GEN X 2 upgrade. I'll only be running 35hp, essentially for spoolup, but this is a while away.

If you run more than 50hp you might want to consider an in-line fuel pump. Also race fuel is recommended.

Hmmmmm Nitrous you say

I went to the modified nationals at Stratford Upon Avon on Saturday and (like a kid in a sweetshop) i'm really tempted to get a Nitrous kit. It will be interesting to see what Jabba reckon to adding say a 50 shot ontop of the remapped engine - i wander if it would take it without altering the internals?

Hmmmm......

Well, check this dyno out. That's a big turbo with 65 wet shot of nitrous on stock internals:

400+3.jpg

Quoting Billy: "yup, 128hp in the mid range with the N20... The 408 pull was with the 40 shot(pump gas program, running race gas), and the 435 pull was with the 65 shot running the race gas program, with race gas..."

I wouldn't do that without first changing the differential though.

:mw:

gimme some of that...

so let me get this straigt.. big turbo.. std internals

roughly what jabbasport is offering me for 1700 quid?

+ a 65 short = bye bye evo???

what did the car run without the nitrous?

You are all mad! ;)

The only thing I'd use nitrous for is cooling not for power.

Plus I can't run it as it is banned at most tracks so it'd rule me out of trackdays :(

The car was a 2000 Golf AWD. It's similar to an AGU (150hp Octavia) but with more stuff. Internals are identical I believe. He used the k03 software from APR, that's why he says race or 93 octane fuel. I believe he was running up to 26psi at redline with his .55 or .57 trim T3/T4. He did blow his engine, but that's after trying to make 500hp at the wheels on stock internals. He used a rebic III additional injector controller with 4 extra injectors to control fuel. I've heard shots larger than 75hp are not recommended, although some people run up to 100 shots.

Speedy G

so......

is it possible on an Octavia with an ihi hybrid turbo/ jabba manifold setup for 280bhp on stock internals to give 400 bhp off a 65 shot of nos? I knew you could sometimes get out more than you put in but thats barmy?

Id like to see you insure it!

I tried to get a Suzuki GSXR insured with N.O.S .

No one would touch it. So i sold it. :(

I suppose you could always get a cheater system fitted :D .

tell them nothing...:D

they take the p?ss enough already.. cant believe my premium dropped 50quid going from a clk 430 to the vRS?

:D

David Vizard wrote a book that covers all aspects of N.O.S including cheater/hidden nitrous and also nitrous and turbocharging. It deals mostly with Yank stuff but its worth getting .

Steve

Why if you dont mind me asking did you change from the CLK to vRS?

I changed so that :-

1 my wife can use it daily rather than driving to work in the Tuscan (having writted one off already - not her fault)

2 It looks fun and have always fancied one - ive never had a turbo.. v6 v8 supercharged nos m power amg xkr ferrari but never a turbo!

3 I can afford a track car and trailer as well - plus i was hitting a brick wall with the clk at 320hp... unless i spent 14k on a blower.

4 It frees up some fund to finish my Camaro drag car that occupies half my garage.

Hi Paul - sounds like you've had some nice stuff in your stable :D

I would guess you can remove a NOS bottle and still run the car? It would be the equivalent of running the car with the bottle turned off?

So you could still go to track days with it - I would hate to do something like that (which is really only used for dragging) and then sacrifice any possible track days!

thats what i have donein th epast - but ive onyl been to cadwell and knockhill and neither checked for nos.

SpeedyG,

Do you guys over the pond use the Fast&TheFurious style arm, then push-button-on-the-wheel-to-activate style NOS or the arm, then on when throttle fully depressed, NX style nitrous?

I prefer the idea of the button-on-the-wheel but have heard that it's all too tempting to press it in 5th or at low revs and do your engine. The NX style has all sorts of computer trickery which only allows it to come on in certain gears or after certain rpms......

I think most people use the wide open throttle style switch. Cars with drive by wire put the switch under the throttle pedal. I'll put it on the throttle body since I have drive by wire. I think it's safer to do it with wide open throttle only.

question for ffelen, are you a mega rich SOB or wot?? i too have owned a ferrari, amg, porsche(including a 955) and various other cars have never quite mastered the technique of getting matchbox cars to start, let alone get inside one ;)

if anybody has any tips on getting either of the above right could you please point me in the right direction

ben

Ah, that's your problem...you'll never fit in a Matchbox car, you need to get the 1/18th scale models! Assuming you're an 18th the size of a normal person...

Rob.

see, as i always if a stupid person asks a question then.......

but then it might help as some say i'm a bit like mini-me so i think i'll invest in some of those models and give'em a quick spin

question for ffelen, are you a mega rich SOB or wot??

dunno.

or wot :D

btw ffelen i didn't mean to offend in any way just thats a good list of expensive cars and i get jealous because my contains fiesta, corsa, metro, focus, 106. not exactly the big cars :(

Speaking of Nitrous - anyone catch that XJS running several bottles of NOS on "best of" Top Gear last night? Bloomin 'eck that thing FLEW! :D

Yeah, I caught the end of the show! That thing was shifting, they said they spent about
