Latest RNS 510 firmware

Featured Replies

My RNS 510 that was made in the factory March 2008 has 1004 firmware. Is there a newer version than this? Is it worth updating? The reason i asked i fitted one to a Jetta tonight that was made November 2008 and has a slighty better interface IE: Audio sound level at bottom of screen ( unlike mine in the middle blocking everything) and a nicer beep tone, would the newer software be like that on the Skoda unit?

I can't say for sure Micky however the upgrade is not without its risks but could mean you end up with a doorstop.

There are several versions of RNS510 firmware available for the columbus,

1022, official latest update but has the same interface as the one you currently have.

0904, unofficial hacked version of this firmware thats normally loaded onto version B units only. Despite Version number is 6 months newer than above.

If you have a B unit then there is a version 1100 firmware as well.

I have the 0904 version loaded on my A unit, dont ask me how to hack the firmware as I did it ages ago with advice from those on the vwnavi forum. This firmware gives you the new interface that you describe with the volume along the bottom and a graphics display for balance and a UK male navi voice. Flashing the firmware is very risky, and a duff CD or power interuption could give you a giant doorstop.

I've been considering upgrading my firmware, but I'd be bricking it about the possibility of bricking it :rotz:

It really is easy to do.

I took every precaution though.

I burned the disc using the slowest speed. Kept the passenger door open whilst doing it and just sat in the car writing reports on my MacBook so if anything was to go wrong i was on hand.

The whole process took about 40 mins and the system does several restarts. However i didn't notice a single difference between 1004 and 1024

Any probs give us a shout/pm and ill do my best to help

I think if no one is finding the difference between 1004 and 1024 it's not worth the risk , i would do it if it had the nicer volume bar at the bottom and the nicer beep like in the VW one.

My thoughts entirely, would rather have a working £700 unit with old firmware, than a £700 brick !

Hi, can any1 help me..

I have a columbus RNS 510 headunit. Ive recently intalled the latest firmware update 38XX, but i have intalled the DVBt tv tuner. Apparently I need to be on firmware 1024 to activate the TV tuner using the VCDS as the button is still greyed out even though i have activated the TV tuner in the VCDS coding. Does anyone i know of a link for this firmware 1024 im really struggling.. Many thanks
