Home made Front mount - my effort

Featured Replies

Have just finished fitting my "home made" front mount to the VRS. I used a focus ST intercooler, and just bought pipes to suit, got alimiminium cut etc and a map sensor made up, thanks to Tokyo Phil for his help with that one. Well heres a few pics of it. Seems to run well, but its quite reaky, more so than before, not sure if thats a commong thing with a bigger cooler or not?

It sits tight to the bottom of the crash bar, and the return pipe runs along the back of it, unlike the forge kit where the pipe is at the front. Heres a quick picture of it compared to the standard one.

Oh and heres the reason for the front mount......

Smoothed the fogs, bottom and side grills off the bumper.

Euan

Cooler looks a nice neat install

Not keen on that bumper though sorry :thumbdwn:

You can do mine next............. (i'm serious!)

The bumper looks wicked! Did you do that yourself?

I like the front bumper, job well done sir.

How much did this cost all in all?

Looks pretty damn good :)

WOW, i really like the bumper! top work

the bumper certainly gives the car a different look

Think I like that bumper. Reminds me of the WRC.

Great job on the FMIC. How much piping did you need?

The bumper is an original VRS bumper with fibreglass panels across the bottom and smothed in. Cost quite a bit but i think its worth it. All in the cooler cost me less than £200. Fairly sure it would fit behind a standard bumper if you remove the plastic vent thing for the side mount which wouldnt be needed anyway, and cut away the bit next to the fog which is again a duct for the side mount.

New wheels will be going on at the weekend to!:D

I didnt use that much pipe either to be honest, 1 metre length cut into 2, the small bit for the map sensor, and 3 100mm alloy joiners. The rest were rubber hoses i just cut down to size, really was easy once i had sized it all up, intercooler just bolts to the bottom of the crash bar.

Thanks for all the comments guys! :D

should be less 'reeky' check for boost leaks :)

Nice, like the look

I've got a Laguna intercooler sat here too, if anyone else wants to go the DIY route :)

Steve

I really like that - That was the same look I was going for!

I do like that as it makes the front end look cool.

LOVE that front bumper! WHere everyone else is cutting holes and filling them with mesh, you've actually gone the other way and fileld in holes!

,,,and done it really well too! DIY? or bodyshop?

i was gonna fill the bumper in, but i'll not bother now, someone beaten me too it, you've just ruined my week, thanks,

looks class thought.

It's OK, more than one person is allowed to do it :)

Steve

Love the bumper.. moves it a little bit more towards dub. Is the back smoothed? :D And get those rub strips of the doors! ;)

Also, sorry to go slightly OT, but don't front mounts restrict flow to the radiator? I mean, they must not cuz so many do it.. but logically I can't help but think the radiator gets a little warmer then the norm?

shouldn't get "warmer" as cold air will pass through the FMIC....................(i would think)

Saw your car at the Ayr cruise, Bennett.......not a fan of the bumper bud, but each to their own ;):D

10/10 for originality though

Will need to have a look, theres no hissing etc under boost though, and its not down on power? Reeks coming out the exhaust? I got a new exhaust with no back boxes aswell so dont no whether that would make a difference? ( cheers dovit for the heads up, sounds amazing for a diesel )

Bumper was down at one place, and then taken somewhere else to get painted. Front end was done to tidy up stonechips so cars looking really fresh. :D

Just got myself a full leather interior aswell, and the wheels back from powdercoaters today, pics to follow. Thanks for the comments though, good and bad, if everyone had the same tastes it would be a boring forum!

Bennett

Looking forward to the pics.

Fair play mate - good effort!! Glad the map sensor drawing was of use to you!!

Mine "smogs" alot at the moment.........think its something to do with the CDA, removed back box and the new map i've got ;)

...........god i love modding :D:rofl:

and the new map i've got

As good as this one big guy:D:rolleyes:
