Removing vRS Spoiler - How ?

Featured Replies

is it bolted on, or bonded on ?

mine needs painting and if it can easily be removed ill take it off and get them to do the whole thing, otherwise they can mask it off and just flat down the top and go over that

You will be very luck to remove it, they are bonded on with some very strong glue. You have more chance of damaging it than getting it off in one piece

Alex

it was my car and i managed to get another spoiler from a written off one, i had to talk the guy through how to get it off as another breakers yard had snapped one,

it is bonded on with windscreen adheisive type stuff and silicon

best way to get it off is have a hot hot kettle and start at one end gentle lifting but not putting to much pressure at pulling it off, then work your way along and just keep pouring the hot water over it,

Does the spolier do anything?

I mean does it actually help aerodynamically on the vrs?

As with most spoilers its there to look good, it actually makes the aerodynamics of the car worse as it increases the turbulence from the back of the car. And thats with the standard car being as aerodynamic as a bick anyway!

It's excellent at sucking muck up and covering the tailgate :P

Have you noticed a cleaner rear end or better mpg for that matter?

My boot is always filthy!

only drove it minimally as ive had a gammy arm,

but it looks gay without one, like a fabia vRS but a little lost,

and to answer your question........NO its still got the rear end vacume from somewhere, lol

  • 4 months later...

My spoiler has recently come off after fitting a Thule 9105 bike carrier to the boot. The damn thing hangs off the top the the boot lip and most of the weight pushes down on to the spoiler and rear window.

Needless to say I was not very happy and got a refund on the bike carrier (probably says somewhere in this forum never to fit that bike carrier, oh well!).

The spoiler was held on by black silicon adhesive and looked to be spaced-away with some white hot-melt glue blobs along its length.

I'm going to try just some standard silicon adhesive this weekend and see what happens...anyone re-attached theirs before?

standard silicon sealant will not stick the spoiler back on , you require something like Sikaflex or similar , available from bodyshop suppliers, maybe even B+Q warehouse

Sikaflex 11FC Adhesive & Sealant

Thanks mate, I will give that a go this weekend and see what happens

i used sikaflex on mine and it aint moved and is still on 2 months on

How easy/hard was it? I'm imagining the black adhesive running out from the edges when applying pressure to it.

How many tubes of 330ml did you use?

same size tube as normal bathroom sealant, just load it in a normal adhiesive gun

before i went out i cleaned old adhievive from my spoiler,

warmed the sikaflex on the radiator,

filled the set channels on the underside of the spoiler where the origional sealant was,

if you stick to these then there will be minimal if any residue to wipe away,

make sure that its firmly pressed down, hold for 2-3 mins,

i then taped it on in a few directions to be over cautious
