Are there any special things I should look out for when looking for one of these cars :confused:

Cheers

:thumbup:

Some people here might say the engine's a bit "special"... :D

just go and buy a new one before its to late,book it into Jabba and u'll never look back,especially at the current price.

like the advert 'Just do it'.

If buying second-hand & private I would say that its worth getting an RAC / AA check for peace of mind (particularly if you aren't a mechanical expert). Other things to look for / ask are:

1) Have all the coil packs been changed;

2) Look under the front spoiler for scraping damage;

3) Check for stone chips - the bonnet seems to get lot on Octys and whilst they might be obvious on a black one they probably won't be as obvious on Silver & yellow ones;

4) Check closely on seat trim - the white bits on the seats fray at the top edge. Not too bad if under warranty as you should be able to get them redone but a pain if out of warranty.

Other than that the checks are pretty much those you would make on any car - i.e. going for proper drive, listening to engine & suspension noise whilst revving engine, going on bumpy roads & corners. Also one of the other ones is to try and really engage the seller in conversation re: use of the car etc to guage what they know about it, how they have used it etc. Good luck anyway :thumbup:

I'll do a retrospective check on mine then. So here goes:

1) Have all the coil packs been changed.

No. Oh dear.... :(

2) Look under the front spoiler for scraping damage.

Looked and it's scraped.... :(

3) Check for stone chips - the bonnet seems to get lot on Octys and whilst they might be obvious on a black one they probably won't be as obvious on Silver & yellow ones.

Obvious stone chips are present :(

4) Check closely on seat trim - the white bits on the seats fray at the top edge. Not too bad if under warranty as you should be able to get them redone but a pain if out of warranty.

Fraying white bits are indeed visible :(

OMG I own a dog :eek:

Im not saying that you have a dog :P Obviously the more important aspects are mechanical but I don't think there are a lot of things that have gone wrong with standard Octy RSs - at least not any common faults as far as I know. They are just various superficial things to be aware of as can lead to increased cost if the cars out of warranty... and can be used to get the price down when buying / bartering. I got the coil packs and and seats done under warranty but do have the stone chips and scraping under bumper ... guess thats half a dog I have :D

Jason, Do I gather from the tone of your reply that you're far from happy with the recent purchase :( ??
