GFB Hybrid BOV (PICS)

Featured Replies

Just fitted a GFB Hybrid Blow Off valve(excellent quality piece of kit) to my brothers Octavia VRS.Decided to go for the Hybrid as it recirculates the pressure as std in normal driving conditions, then when the throttle is closed after hard acceleration, the excess boost is dumped to both atmosphere and inlet.

I had to make a small bracket to anchor the BOV to, to ensure it cleared the plastic inlet cover but other than that it was a quick and easy job

So far there have been no running problems and although its not the loudest BOV in the world, its plenty loud enough for my taste :D

Heres a couple of pics

Is that installed the right way round???

I don't think it is, when i installed my dump vavle it had to go in the other way but then i may be wrong

These fitting instructions posted on BugMod show the same BOV installed on its side compared with the pictures posted by MR G. That said, I haven't a clue which is right. :(

Ooooo...that makes a nice sound......oh...it's the waste gate chattering. ;)

Have to admit i thought the sound was more like the compressor surge i used to have in my GT Turbo :( ,so are you guys saying it should be mounted with the trumpet upright

i think thats what they are hinting at...

try it the other way.. you wont damage anything...

I can't remember which way Dave had fitted his...needless to say though.....you can tell if it's on the wrong way...you'll hear the waste gate chattering under acceleration.....not so good for your turbo I believe.

Yep, it was the wrong way round :o ,obvious if i'd thought about it :ashamed: ,anyway its definately connected correctly now and its much louder than i was expecting :D ,just out of intrest what boost pressure does a std VRS run at the turbo outlet?? :revs:

Dave what have you done here

More a case of.....what he had done.

That said we're all infallable....I for one...edited posts by mistake. :o

Erm, Adrian, the way the dv is positioned in Mr Gs last post is exactly the way round that Dave had his (albeit a different design) when he got scalded by the lads at AMD on the rolling road day http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10611&highlight=amd (I think Dave's was an in joke (made me fall off the settee anyway)).

Mind you Mr G ... if it works like it is, sounds top and isn't detrimental to the performance then you're spot on and we can all learn a bit  wooooosh paatisssh :)

Pete,

IIRC, Dave didn't have his GFB DV fitted at the AmD day.......this is a hybrid DV...part BOV, part DV. From Dave's experience and others that I have read, this works fine with a standard car but not a remapped one.

Dave is running a Forge DV006...IIRC.

All my usual disclaimers apply. ;)

Adrian,

I completely agree :)

The way i understand it,at lower boost levels eg not foot to the floor, the piston only partially opens on throttle closure and 'dumps' the air back into the air filter pipe(inlet side of turbo). Then on full boost situations, when the throttle is closed the piston opens fully and allows the air to dump through both outlets(inlet and atmosphere) Is this correct ???

Yup it is!

I fitted mine the wrong way round - and unlike the Forge 006 i have now it didn't actually work when installed back to front - although it did make perhaps the coolest noise ever heard - second only to my exhaust :D

GFB is OK as a DV but it just dont work with remapped cars! You will actually get a louder 'whoooooshh' noise with a recirc (like a Forge) and an induction kit like ABD / Carbonio or Jabba's new one.

...and we all make mistakes now don't we Adrian front discs;)

Fancy putting the front discs on the back.

Even I'm not that bad. ;):D

Close - but not that bad ;)

(couldnt find the quota button so copied and pasted this from Daves post) "You will actually get a louder 'whoooooshh' noise with a recirc (like a Forge) and an induction kit like ABD / Carbonio or Jabba's new one".

Anyone got any details on this "new one" from Jabba !!??

i believe the standard boost on the octy vRS is 0.75 bar or 0.9 bar... one or the other, someone will correct me anyhow.

Very similar to the Neuspeed indcution kit.......highly polished, lazer cut heat shiled which seals on the underside of the bonnet. Filters are paper...so no oil. Obviously replaces standard air box but uses the formers retaining fixure points. Also uses the standard input to the airbox.

I also have some ducting from the lower front grill (used for my Dynatwist previously).

Sooo what's it like......loud. Gives a nice deep, roarty induction sound.....and you can definately hear the DV venting. ;) You can also hear the turbo spool up a lot more clearly as well.

Feels more responsive at low revs.

You read my mind :)

Try the little "Reply" button on the bottom right of the post you want to quote
