Pure Highway DAB

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have purchased the Pure Highway DAB as I don't want to remove the standard car stereo. For better reception I have also purchased the optional aerial for the car. I wish to fix this to the boot as don't really fancy an extra one on the roof.

Does anyone know of the best way to run the aerial cable from the front to the boot? I am thinking along the doors tucked up under the plastic on the side but not sure if this is the best way as I dont really want to start taking things apart.

Cheers

Hi there.

I have the same setup but I chose to put the antenna on the roof, near the top right-hand corner of the rear glass.

I considered putting the antenna on the boot lid but decided the roof was a better place (and it makes the car look like a unmarked police car, especially in silver like mine).

Anyway, routing the cable is a right pain, and you'll need to extend the cable too, a headphone extension lead is ideal. I had to work my way through, pulling away bits of trim, took me hours.

I wish I'd seen the article on Octavia-vrs.com detailing how to fit a towbar as there is step by step guide on how to route the wiring from the back of the car to the fusebox in the dash, showing what to do to take off the various bits of trim.

So follow that guide and you should be good to go.

Also, have you got the jumbo box with the aux input as the FM modulator reception isn't the best.....!

Interesting..how and where did you install the radio, pics would be good

Ask and you shall receive......:)

Routing the antenna lead through an existing grommet, otherwise you could risk leaks and wind noise 29190.attach Also, be aware that you'll need to remove the antenna when going through a car wash and as it doesn't unscrew, you have to remove the base as well. I wanted the antenna originally on the car centreline, either infront or behind the radio antenna, but as the antenna and base don't fit through the gap between the hatch and the roof when the hatch is open I had to mount the antenna at the corner. Still, I like it there anyway!

As I said though, use the aux output from the Highway connected to the aux input (if you have it) in the car, otherwise you're at the mercy of pirate radio stations making it impossible to find a free frequency for the FM modulator.

Silver VRS with extra aerials... Bet when you're wearing the right shirt / black jumper there are a few folk reluctant to overtake you on a motorway! :)

You're not kiddin, especially on my way home from work along the M40 cruising along at 70 on the inside lane.......

Pretty much every day people come steaming up behind me then chuck on the anchors. Even when they trickle past and see I'm on my own and 'not in uniform' some get worried that the DAB unit on the A Pillar is something sinister! I love it.

Could you run the aerial cable through the roof lining instead.

Get an extra long welding rod or thin length of wire go to the rear and thread it to the front aiming for the top of the windscreen pillar get some tape and connect the aerial cable and pull it gently to the rear, then just run the remainder behind the pillar cover casing

Yup, good point and that is what I did when I installed an antenna on my Saab 9-3 estate, but you do need to be careful if you've got a curtain airbag.

When I can to try the same thing on the Octavia I found that even with the rear hatch seal removed the roof lining wouldn't drop down far enough for me to be able to guide the rod through and I didn't fancy doing all the other work to properly drop the lining.

Still, removing the interior trim was a ballache so it's swings'n roundabouts....!

Can't beat good pics..thanks :) would it be possible to mount in a 'hidden' area, or must it be on the dash?

How do you rate the improvment in reception with the external antenna fitted?

I tried a Highway with the standard stick-on internal antenna and it was useless. If this antenna does improve things a lot then I will get the unit out of the shed and throw it in the Octy. I was thinking of putting it in the cubby hole above the radio (or in the ashtray) so I can shut it away when its not in use
