Convoy(s) to Gaydon national meet (Sun 12 July)

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Phil, Wayne (halfpint2) & myself will be meeting for brekkie at 7am

At MaccyD, Lakeside Village (was Yorkshire Outlet) J3 M18 Doncaster

However, I'll be in no rush, cruising 50-55mph, as I'll be in an old relic.

Any good buddies, wanting to join for a good old convoy...

From Donny (McDonalds J3 M18 7am)

1. gcr31463 - 1965 Octavia

2. halfpint2 - Rapid

3. philje123 - Nelly the Felly

From Woodall (7.45-8)

4. wega3k - 08 Race Blue Octy VRS

5. smogmonster - Octy VRS

From Trowell / J28/J27 or random slip roads

5. vrsfab - Fabia VRS

6. shark90 - Black Octavia VRS

Would love to but was planning on going down on Sunday morning. If the accomodation was dirt cheap I would consider it though!

Bump,

I've edited the 1st post to show a £40 hotel deal for

Holiday Inn, Coventry South via the laterooms.com website

cheers ... Darren

Hmmm... That could be tempting... Might be nice to get down on the saturday and take my time then something to eat... few drinks nice nights sleep then a short drive to the meet...

Will have a look at the website and see what I think.

Phil

I,m thinking of travelling down on the Saturday too , Just been on the travel lodge website , can get a room for £35 (1 x adult & 1 x child) just outside Coventry

Have you booked yet?

hia, I have just found this hotel for £35 pn. looks rather nice. I have said I'll be at Gaydon for 8am to help set up etc so contemplating early start or stop over with a chilled evening hmmmmmm

Have now decided against the whole staying over business even though I'd love to convoy down with you.

Will see you there on Sunday!

Have you booked yet?

Not yet , still deciding to stay the night before in a hotel or camp or go down "daft o clock" sunday morning

Same here, looking at an hour for driving to the lock-up & getting the old car fired up.

Then lock up to Gaydon is 115 miles not on motorways, so that's 3 hours+

I suppose I could swap cars over on Saturday, to get an extra hour in bed on the Sunday.

So you avoiding the motorways on the way down then Darren?

I've got mixed views, on the one hand ...

at 50-55 on the motorway, there's still other lanes for people to get past me,

there's a lot less stop starting & a lot less gear changing too.

In fact the other week, I just picked an empty truck & tailed it (at a safe distance)

on it's limiter. Copied pretty much all of his overtakes.

Saves the worry of the speed creeping up through motorway boredom

& thrashing the motor & gearbox too much.

On th other hand it gets a bit boring & I do get to see rather too much of the motorway network as it is...

Well either way. If you are going down on Sunday let me know and we shall meet somewhere and convoy from there.

I'm always up for avoiding the motorways myself as I find them extremely boring! But it's up to you if you don't want to stress the motor too much.

Phil

I'm up for a convoy down. I don't mind going slow (will help bring my average mpg up after GTI International!). I'm in Sheffield so could meet on M1 at Woodall services? Just below J31.

I'd imagine there will be, however, you've just (perhaps inadvertently) asked that question in the Yorkshire section ...

It starts at 9am.

I think Wardy has started a convoy thread for the North West lot

(I've got it in my mind that you're on the rainier side of the Pennines!

Apologies if you're not, commiserations if you are!)

Bolton. Orig Red Rose County but now Greater Manchester.

Well it might not be the biggest of convoys, but it's possibly the oldest!

Surely there's more Yorkshire area folk heading down?

I assume you just mean the cars the?!

Hehe.

We will probably bump into some folks on the way down at some point I bet.

Phil
