The Yeti is brilliant, but will it sell?

Featured Replies

What they need to do is get a few police and highway agency tenders...

I quite fancy one myself, but I suspect it wont shift many here. Unfortunatly the name Skoda still has stigma. That combined with the rather daft name Yeti is probably enough to put some people off. I mentioned it to work collegues and they laughed and took pee out of it before even seeing it.

It won't in numbers like Ford sell Mundanos but it will sell relatively well for a quirky Skoda I think, from what I've seen so far of the car and the reviews it seems to be a cracker.

I can't wait to order a couple up as demonstrators and show everyone just what they are like.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of the Yeti, it seems to tick many of the boxes I will need from my next car, the only think that may get in it's way is an Octavia 4x4

James let me know if you do get one in (must be 4x4) as I think one may be heading in this direction at some point :)

Reading Clarkson's Sunday Times review, the price of a CR170 Elegance 4x4 looked a bit steep

Did like the look of it though

Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSA review | New Car Reviews - Times Online

Sales start in September and while prices have still to be set, the cheapest model will cost at least £14,000, meaning Skoda has positioned it above not only its own Octavia (whose platform it shares) but also the new Volkswagen Golf, with its rather more modern engineering. You’ll see no surer sign that Skoda has tired of selling on value as it always had to in the past.

There are three diesel and two petrol models, and if you go for the most powerful 170bhp diesel in ritzy Elegance spec, you’ll probably see no change from £22,000. I was most drawn to one right down at the other end of the price list, the entry-level 1.2 TSI. Although a 1.2-litre engine seems inadvisedly small for a car of this size, when it’s turbocharged up to 105bhp and run through a slick, six-speed gearbox, its cheerfully fizzy performance is all you need.

I sure will do, I'm planning on ordering 2 or 3 as soon as I can for the launch.

Ideally I want to have a range topper 170CR 4x4 a 1.2 TSi DSG and a 1.8TSi 4x4 but I bet that the 1.2TSi DSG isn't available from launch.

When I know what date the launch is going to be and when I've confirmed what cars I'm going to have I'll send out some invites for people to come and have a try, should hopefully have the new 1.6CR Octavia on test by then also and maybe if it ever turns up the 1.4TSI DSG Octavia.

Wonder if Skoda would give us back the V6 Superb again?....

I hope The Times have the pricing wrong as it sounds too exspensive to me. Especially compared to the Octavia. I really like the sound of the Yeti but may have to reconsider if it's going to be too expensive.

22k!! I was thinking of replacing my VRS with one (assuming its any good) but 22k is too much. For that money I hope its loaded with as many toys as the Superb Elegance.

I'd still wait for official UK pricing to appear. And do you need 4x4 if you've got a vRS at the moment?

Steve

I don't think £22k is accurate, the prices of cars around Europe are usually higher than in the UK. I'd guess from between £12k to £18k but that's just a guess it may well be £22k but like someone else mentioned I'd like to think it will be loaded up for that much money.

Steve

I don't need a 4x4, but I don't really need 200bhp from my current Vrs. However I might want it! The more upright seating position of the yeti may be better for my back hence the interest.

Back to the pricing, if it is 22k is that a bit close to Honda CRV / VW Tiguan territory?

The closest thing on the market in terms of cost has to be the Octi Scout, which its loosely based on. Given that trim levels and material quality are also likely to be similar, I can easily see a top flight Yeti TDI 140 being on a par, listing at around £20,500 and the 1.8 TSI about £18,700.

As for the Tiguan a high spec 140 is £24,500-25,000 add another £800 for a 170.

Also to add into the pot theres the Qashqai 4x4 and Freelander; around 21K will get you a base model TD if you paid list.

I suspect Skoda are targeting these base Freelander owners given the off road capability options on the Yeti, as it appears to be much better in this area than any other SUV of this size yet produced. Plus the fact the electronic wizardry used is similar to the Freelander system.

If they make some of the concept versions - I think there was a folding hard top and some other styles, it would sell then!

Before you all wet yourselves about the price, wait and see what Skoda UK come up with price and spec wise first.

Depending on the level of toys, £22k for a top spec 170-TDI might not seem too bad considering it has the engine from the Octy RS, 4x4 and a Superb style/quality interior.

James, it looks like only the 1.8TSI and the 103KW TDI are available from launch in CZ at least. It's on the Czech configurator, loads of different interior upholstery options but bet we don't get the same choice in the UK!

That's handy to know, I'd like to have a whole range of engines available at launch really so I can gen up on all the models very quickly but I guess like the Superb launch not all engines/drivetrains are available straight away.

As a newcomer, just browsing around on this forum, I thought it would be interesting to take a look back right at the beginning.

Will it sell? Faster than Skoda can build them it seems!

Great find and very funny. Will it sell mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm YES!

Hehehe... oh that is something good to bring back! haha. Will it sell indeed!

They will sell even more if they can sort out the sunroof situation.

:wall: I am looking at mine as a long term puchase to tour Europe in and just wonder how long I will have to wait? The dealers are able now to quote (at the new price!!!! £1200 :bandit:) but cannot order!

The way I see it is put your order in and have it ready so the day the dealer gets the OK on the system to put sunroofs through yours is the first to go!
