Will a 42" TV fit?

Featured Replies

Basically, as per the title. Will a 42" LCD telly fit in the back of the Fabia? TV size is (H)670mm (W)1035mm (D)100mm. If the back seats are down you think it will fit OK?

Thanks

Get them to deliver it, as it's not advisable to lay them flat to transport, they should always be upright.

Lay them flat, hit a pothole and the whole screen can crack, then they will just blame you, and refuse to replace it.

I would recommend leaving the seats UP, and having it upright, flat against the back of the seats (I think it will go in lengthways across the rear bench) and use thin rope or something to ensure it doesn't fall forwards against the front seats.

I've done this comfortably with a 32" one. However, for peace of mind I would seriously follow the post above's advice, and get it delivered.

I had a 42LCD in the back of the fabia no problem.

Thanks for the replies guys

I had considered picking it up in my Bora but the boot is full of crap and the wifes Fabia only has an umbrella and shopping bags in it :D But since its recommended to keep it upright I might just get it delivered. Would just mean that I am waiting about 3 weeks to get it as opposed to picking it up this afternoon, but for peace of mind think delivery might be the best option.

Had another idea

Remove the back seats entirely and have the TV down the middle, using the gap in the 2 front seats to stop it moving side to side (not sure how big the gap is compared to the box though) Take plenty of padding (I'm thinking settee cushions :D) to pad out the back around the box to stop it moving and keeping it upright.

I doubt you would get it through either the boot or door apertures tbh, certainly not if it is in any type of box.

LCD's are often stacked flat (rather than upright) when delivered to retailers. It's only plasma you have to keep upright. I've had a 42" in cars smaller than a fabia although have had to remove the box and just keep the protective polystyrene around the TV

In my opinion its the plasma tv's you have to keep upright, as far as i'm aware the LCD ones are ok laid down for a short time.

BUT i stress thats only my opinion don't take my word for it:thumbup:

Best advice is to ask the selling shop what they think, after all its them gettting your money:rolleyes:

with relation to the transportation of TV's.

Plasma's MUST be kept vertical due to the gasses inside the TV. LCD tv's can be lead down no problems.

When i worked at currys we always had stock delivered lead on their side and it never caused any problems

its great when people don't read posts isn't it

as said it should fit but moving flat isn't a good idea, its that laying an LCD flat will break it but bouncing it up and down when flat might. :)

if it is in its box it will not break i can assure you that. If there was a chance why would currys etc transport them like that?

I read your post, It's Missing a word :P

When we bought our LCD from Sony, they assured me that they must always be transported upright and "NEVER" flat as they can, and will crack.

Also if you look on the box it the symbols tell you its to go upright.

Your choice, but if they deliver it and there is a problem, you can back it to them, if you take it away and its cracked when you get it home, they will say you did it.

"Your Choice"?

I still say looking at our 42" telly you would not get it through the doors or hatch to fit it in the car :) in fact I remember when we bought it I wanted to save on delivery and worked out I would have to borrow my mates scenic, in the end we got it delivered.

tbh that sounds like sony being too careful. They never told currys that which tbh is a bit worrying.

I reckon a 42" would fit in a fabia, obv lead down through the boot

It fits, bought some months ago also a 42", ad transported it they way you suggested.

Had a 20 minute drive trough the city and the tv didn't get damaged.

Good luck !

I had a 37" plasma in the back of SWMBOs Fabia Estate. It went in vertically across the back seats in the box, but it was very tight. I wouldn't think that a 42" would fit.

a 42" TV does fit with the seats down. Did it in November when I bought a new TV and whacked it in the back of the vRS with a stand, Blu-Ray Player and new Xbox :)

My 42' beast fitted in the back of Fabia no probs too, and was in the box!!

Yes they will, Boxed, my 42" LG fitted a treat.

Hello,

TV will be in a box, with both seats folded forward it will slide straight in, done a 40" TV with ample room to spare.

Wow, didn't think this topic would get so many replies :) Thanks for all your responces.

Well, in the end we didn't try picking it up in the Fabia. We were going to get it delivered but they couldn't deliver for 3 weeks which was ok with us, then they ran out of stock for delivery, so myself and my mate went over in his works Transit and picked it up last night. Put it in through the side door and secured it to the cabin screen with tie ropes to keep it upright.

Got it sitting in our hall still boxed teasing me until the new unit arrives to put it on :(
