Octavia 2 and folding mirrors

Featured Replies

I believe the revised Octavia models (2009/2010) allow you to fold the mirrors with the remote as per the Superb.

Would anyone know or be able to find out the coding in the cars computer which allows this function as I'm trying to get it enabled on my Golf.

Seems odd that the Leon, Superb and now the new Octavia can do this by the Golf cannot. VW dealer just says it can't be done which I don't believe one bit.

Any chance any owners who have a Octavia can check if this function is listed in the MDF?

Thanks

How far do the others fold inwards,,,,cos the mk5 golf folded in about an inch...lol

The mirrors may look the same, but if they are not electrically folding (per the knob inside), they can't be folded by remote either.Even if they are, the Skodas might have a different controller to enable that, as if they were folded by remote they unfold upon key in ignition, but if they were folded by the switch nothing happens.

Unless you have the motorised mirrors fitted, then it isnt possible.

Luckily I do have motorised mirrors with the switch, just they don't work of the remote

My Elegance facelift mirrors fold either via the mirror's door control switch or by holding down the key fob's remote locking button.

Are there options related to this in the Maxidot? and have you ever had the central electrics module (09) scanned on VCDS?

When I say motorised mirrors, I mean the motor to actually fold the mirrors in, not the one that moves the mirror glass ;)

Yep mine fold

Yep mine fold

But do you have the motor that would fold them? If you do, then you've lost me as to why you think it isnt possible?

Sounds like you dont have the required motor to me. Hence it not working.

I think what he is trying to say his car has the folding mirrors already but he wants them to fold remotely like in the superb.

Might just need some new coding, might need a new controller, either way, you're 60% there. Try vag com on your car and a facelift octi and note the differences, if any.

Thanks for the replies

Just to clarify I do indeed have electric folding mirrors on the Golf, which fold via the dial on the door, just no with the key as per Superb/Facelift Octavia.

It would be interesting to compare coding but would need to find someone willing to provide VCDS coding from their facelift Octavia for me to compare, if anyone can get a print out from their Central Electrics module that would be great.

Would Skoda really fit a different controller to VW for that one function?

I'd love this retro-fitted, but bet it's mega fiddly and probably not viable. I wonder where they stash the folding motor though :D

As others say, the next step would be log results from a car that does the folding automatically on lock/unlock, and yours that doesn't. Also, as mentioned, even if you do see the differences and then change your coding accordingly, it could be constrained by the convenience module, or whatever it is that is responsible for handling commands to/from the mirror folding motors.

Does anyone know of a thread or a member that rettro fitted this...

It seems scabby to me that i had this option on both my previous Golf & Toledo, but when i bought a newer car , it didn't have it..... I havn't seen it on a Octy either !!

Also, i would love to knoe the story about puddle lights on the exterior of the mirror. Is there facilities already in the mirror for this, or would i have to purchase some bits and bobs for a rettro fit... (sorry for the change of subjest, just floated into my head :) )

Facelift Elegance has power fold mirrors and puddle lights.

Is there much to putting those puddles lights do you know ??

Dont power folding kick in as soon as the ignition is off?

No, not on the facelift, or at least on Elegance trim. It's either via the rotary control knob on the driver's door or via the key fob's remote by pressing and holding the lock button. The latter makes more sense from a safety point of view since it lets you open the door to get out with the mirror's rear view still in tact. The puddle lights come on automatically when the either front doors are opened, regardless of whether the driving lights are on or not - as do the door position lights. There appears to be no way of turning the puddle lights off when the car's lights are off - unless of course I've missed somthing?

When you hold the Lock key, do the windows close up as per Fords/Mazdas? Can you also close the sunroof in the same way??

Yes, it can be set to operate windows in conjunction with mirrors or not.
