German/Pressed plates

Featured Replies

As consumers we only commit the offence of using them on the road which is a straight £30 fine. The suppliers risk a much heftier penalty if they supply a show plate.

As from the 1st July the fine is increased to £60 and also carrys the risk of points if the offence is severe.

cheers, so it looks like the dots are useles on numberplates, and someone jus decided they`d look good at some point, Think i`ll have em on either of the letters but not both.

Thanks

Matt

Not necessarily - a sample German plate might be HH-AB-123, and the HH identifies the Lande (area, state or county) of registration. HH is actually Hamburg, and doesn't take an accent, but some Landes do take an umlaut on the initial capital, so apply it to the abbreviation used on their numberplates.

I had an email at work about this but haven't had chance to read it fully. I know that not wearing a seatbelt is now £60 but still no points. It's just another bloody type of ticket to carry around. Why they can't make just one with a section to fill stating how much and how many points is beyond me.

Don't know about your Force, but in ours it's the same £60 non-endorsable ticket that we've been using for no tax/no mot, so no extra forms :)

For info, the offences being upgraded to £60 are seatbelt offences and reg mark not confirming to regulations.

It could be the same for us but only our traffic officers were authorised to give out the no tax/mot tickets. We can give them out for the new offences so I wonder if we'll now be authorised to do people for tax and mot as well. Could be good for a wannabe traffic rat like me!!

It's a bit funny how different forces let their officers do different things. We're by and large not supposed to do S.165 seizures without a traffic officer.

Anyway, back on topic: Pressed German plates - cool, but illegal. Use at own risk ;)

Bizarrely enough, this week I've seen two German registered cars driving in my local area, both of which were right hand drive. They weren't British registered cars with show plates, but cars that presumably been exported / re-registered in Germany.

Most BFPO I've seen in Germany still have British plates. My guess is that it was two contractors working long term in UK needing the day to day convenience of RHD here, but still finding it easier to do all the paperwork (insurance etc) back home.

Alternatively I wonder if that's been done to give the drivers a little more leeway with motorway speed limits /parking infringements etc? I guess your warranty would expire if you exported & re-registered your car, assuming of course you had an address to re-register it to & you'd need to present it to TUV (MOT) periodically too ...
