Santas been and delivered my Powerflex bushes.

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Thought i would share my excitement at my order for a full car kit of Powerflex bushes arriving this morning :)

After my recent brake problem the wishbone bushes all got soaked in brake fluid due to the number of times the master cylinder was removed. So thought this an ideal time to play it safe and change them.

I had read horror stories of the front wishbone bushes failing very quickly from Powerflex so called James (their MD) and had a chat with him. He told me about the new design and how it was better and said if i had any problems he would refund me no problem. So, lets see how they get on. While i was placing the order i thought it rude not to order the rest that they did so ordered a full car kit. I know this will make the car very rigid with more road noise, but me and Hannah prefer our cars quite solid and planted. We use the car on track also so really wanted the best available. No point is fitting standard bushes back in now is their, lol. We only do around 3000 miles a year in our car so are happy to live with a harsh road ride :)

I was that bored i even took some photos:

Im not sure when i am going to be getting these fitted but will do a little report on how i get on with them once they are all fitted :)

Kind Regards

Garry

How much was the steering rack bush in the end? I suppose I should get one for when I fit the TT quickrack (eventually )

Do these PU bushes last better or less time than the OEM ones out of interest.

  • Author

I was always led to believe they last alot longer due to being stiffer. They dont go soft like the stock ones :)

But i would need confirmation of this, i cant say 100% myself :)

Garry

You don't actually need the arb link bushes as the vrs has different droplinks

Really? Doh :(

For sale - One set of Octy Mk1 front roll bar bushes (Excludes VRS models) , lol

Garry

Been there - done that - regreted it BIG time.

Powerflex bushes are terrible. I went through 3 sets of front suspension arm rear bushes in 12 months. I still have the steering rack and dog bone ones fitted and these seem good but the ones with stainless steel sections are rubbish. The front suspension bushes end up with the stainless part in an oval hole and the rear ones pop out for fun. I spent a fortune trying these bushes and ended up with solid rubber Audi TT bushes which are so much better. They are stiff enough yet smooth and will outlast the powerflex ones by several years!

Sorry but there have been so many posts on how poor powerflex bushes are on this site.

Why didn't you ask.:rotz:

Good luck fitting them.

not a vrs I know but I've had Powerflex Front and Rear wishbone bushes & ARB bushes on my octavia for the last 2 years and covered over 40k and they're fine, not had any problems with them at all. I did have the Dog Bone too but its way to hard to run on a tdi

I second that.....Exactly the same issue with mine. The front wishbone and ARB ones are ok, but don't touch the rear front wishbone bush as that is the old style one. The new style ones are surround by a metal cover.

I've also read that the new style ones eat themselves from the inside out. The Front front wishbones ones were also knackered after 12 months as the centre hole in the poly becomes oval and the stainless insert just flops around, also the front ones don't really do anything to improve the cars handling. It's the flex in the rear that causes issues but i wouldn't put another powerflex bush on if you paid me.

Good luck anyway as the ones in your pictures are axactly the same as the ones I threw in the bin again and again.

the new one are fine and are lasting well the old ones are crap.. the one wrapped in metal are actually the camber ajusting mount not the revised mount that garry has....:thumbup:im led to believe:rolleyes:

the old one on my car only lasted a few months and where completly fecked but i did get a refund from powerflex as they addmitted they are rubbish but did point out the problem is with lowerd cars :D

Thanks for the replies and warnings. They are all noted. These bushes are the newer version of their bush (only changed a couple of months ago). Its not a hard job to change them so if they do fail i can change them to something else and Powerflex will credit my account, so its not a major drama.

I shall keep an eye on them and keep you all posted :)

Garry

I've changed all the bushes for Powerflex ones and they have been in the car for years. No problems as yet, sorry!

Maybe my car is not hardcore or driven hard enough.

  • Author

Yeah, your car is too clean and shiny, you just dont drive it hard enough.

I would swap but could really do with a car that has rear door cards. Oh well :(

Actually. You about tomorrow? Fancy a job of fitting them all :D

Garry

des how many miles has your car done since you fitted them??? :D

also if you drive like you did at castle coombe then they will be fine for many a year   :P

Seems to be very hit and miss with the old style bushes, some people have nothing but trouble, and yet others have no issues at all. Most odd. Just hope these newer ones are better and cause less issues :)

Im not sure i will ever truly find out tho as i barely do 3000 miles a year in it so they wont be given any endurance testing that's for sure :)

Garry

well ive done about that milage on the new ones and they are fine no probs....:thumbup:

  • Author

Thats encouraging. :)

Cheers mate.

Garry

Maybe my car is not hardcore or driven hard enough.

That slow shed couldn't break a bush......Not enough power IMO:rofl::rofl::rofl:

HTF does my meagre shed keep destroying bushes and steering arms then :confused::confused:

Wonder if its something to do with the amount of suspension travel the bush sees?

As said earlier, its being pulled in a direction it does not want to go, the further the travel the more its pulled? Just a thought.
