VRS Ltd Ed - Bluetooth Query

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

I'm a newby to the forum but really hope you can help me out. This may be a dumb question so please bare with me.

I got a VRS TDI Ltd Edition as a company car. It has the Bolero head unit and under the Setup menu I am given the option of ticking on or off the Bluetooth activation.

Can any of you tell me if this means that there is Bluetooth installed or would that option be there for when I ever got the Bluetooth installed??

The reason I ask is that I cannot get any phone to find the connection when I tick "Activate" which does make me think that it isn't installed.

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe any come with Bluetooth as standard. Although as you've found the headunits have support for the module to be added. It could have been added at the supplying dealer however, at PDI time? You would have to check the supplied paperwork for evidence of this.

Is it perfectly possible to have it added at a later date though, as Stu's wonderful guide shows:

I had the very same issue and contacted the Skoda UK support line. Unfortunately I have now deleted the mail they sent me back but what they said after checking my car details was that the bluetooth option needs specific loom connections that has to be fitted in the factory and there is no retro fit available, as such it is not posible to now connect the bluetooth option in the Maxidot display (which really naffed me off) Unfortunately my car was already built in the showroom when I bought it and did not realise this was an additional option not already installed.

Here is details of my contact, they requested the Registration and VRN number to check if it was installed at the factory.

I suppose this is a message for anyone with experience of connecting Bluetooth to the new Bolero system on the VRS LE and the general costs involved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my LE for a couple of weeks now and am very pleased with it. Excellent piece of motor car it must be said – not that I need to preach to the converted!

The only thing that bothers me is the lack of information/advice from Skoda UK with regard to what is and isn’t included as standard. When I first sat in the car in the showroom I thought great – touch screen Bolero system, 6CD changer, SD card slot and a Phone button to connect your phone. Great I said and the salesman agree, so I bought it with a hefty deposit thinking that there wasn’t much I wanted to add to that.

In hindsight, I should have done a bit of research before hand and before committing a deposit but there was no indication to suggest that the Bluetooth function was not installed. Now I have a phone button which does naff-all!

Having trawled this message board for info I’ve managed to deduce the following;

IZ0 035 729B is a fully functional rSAP system for the pre-facelift Octavia

IZ0 035 729A is the new version for the facelift models. However, the rSAP system is only compatible with limited types of mobile handsets.

IZ0 035 729C/D is compatible with most mobile handsets and also works with BAP enabled maxidot displays on the facelift models.

I’m guessing in my case, for the VRS LE, the 729C or D version would be ideal. Can anyone confirm this?

Next question is what sort of cost are we talking about? I’ve seen them on eBay but would be a bit reluctant. Websites like uvworldwide.co.uk are pricey (although it appears to be the A or B version) and autotronicsuk.com are little better, which appears to be the C version. Anyone got any recommendations/suggestions?

Just to throw a spanner in the works, my dealer says that all this would not work unless I have a MFSW (which incidentally is not an option on the LE model ) and can’t be retro-fitted (which must be wrong, surely?). Anyone installed this system without a MFSW?

Steve

Steve excellent points about the phone button that does nothing, but in your defence (and any future purchasers of the LE sitting around UK dealer just now) you don’t know until you read of these thing in Briskoda or try the phone connection out (I tried and failed, then read the threads here about self installation and I am a chicken so that came to a halt there and then!).

Best thing to suggest to anyone buying a LE is to get the dealer to add the BT kit if it is needed.

This is Skodas standard line whenever we have approached them. They said Maxidot couldnt be retrofitted, we know that it can as I have it mine now. They also said the same about the bluetooth on the pre-facelift. This can also be done. The only loom needed is the one between the headunit and the bluetooth module. The rest is all done over the existing can databus, it only needs some minor coding tweeks to enable it all.

If the LE has the newer type of dash insert then I think the 729D is the one to aim for.

As you can see from my guide and other people's comments it is entirely possible to retrofit however it wouldn't be something that Skoda UK would generally get involved with and hence their lack of enthusiasm.

Thanks VRStu,

The LE has the new dash so I think I'd go with the 729C or D.

I have also PM'd you for more info.

Thanks again

Steve

I'm waiting for the next bluetooth group buy till I retro fit. I have everything else just waiting on the bluetooth!

Just to clarify...I have a FL vRS on order (last week) with delivery due probably October. Am right in thinking that I should be able to speak to the dealer and ask him to amend my order to include a factory-fit BT module, which will then work through the Bolero? I know only certain phones work with it, but my Nokia happens to be on that list. Any idea how much this will cost (factory fit)?

The Bluetooth option is only available in the vRS with DSG and comes with MFSW at approx £480 if I remember correctly. It is not an option for the vRS with a manual gearbox. HTH
