New Tax to Hit "Laid Up" Classics and Disabled Drivers

A consultation document recently issued by the DVLA details plans to introduce a new tax on all cars registered on their system, even ones that are not used on the road by their owners.

The "Fee Proposals" consultation, which closes on 8 November, claims the new tax is necessary to cover the costs of issuing photo licences to all drivers, as required by the European Union.

Might I suggest we all read the document and then put our views forward?

Granted, this "consultation paper" hasn't been publicised, let alone sent to every motorist in the UK, which surely would have been the best way to truly show how democratic the process is? I digress........

Here is the copy of my views, as just submitted to the DVLA site....

Option 1 is the only realistically appealing proposal.

Options 2- 4 are introducing yet another level of taxation to the motorist, that will generate far more income than option 1. Why anyone considers the first registration fee an onerous sum of money is beyond me. The fact is, assuming someone at aged 30 buys a new car, pays the re-registration fee as outlined at Option 2, and drives till they are 70, you stand to gain an extra
