Power Steering Failure due to Battery Charging

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

While away recently my Dad needed to move my car but the battery was flat he jumped it from his audi A6 the battery charged no probs there but right after wards the power steering failed. I've read lots about he probs with power steering on the fabia but could this be something different?

I'm also trying to hook up an OBD2 reader to the Fabia 2000 but can't find where the reader plug is there is a little compartment beside my right foot above the bonnet pop handle is it behind that? Do I just pull it off?

Right I figured out the fault reader plug for Skoda Fabia 2000 I'm sure most of you guys know this but took me ages to find it anywhere

It's behind the drop down compartment in the drivers footwell beside the door compartment opens so far and there is a rubber tab that you push aside or force a bit to pull it the rest of the way and there is you can't miss it

Now anyone any ideas on the over charging with the power steering?

will post the fault codes when I get them

Most common PAS fault is a failing car battery, and or, alternator charge lead broken at the plug on the gearbox.

The most important PAS ones being

01598 - Drive Battery Voltage

and

01309 - Power Steering Control Module (J500)

49-00 - No Communications

no luck with the alternator that seems fine and the connection

Have you checked the charging voltage? You can do this either with a volt meter connected across the battery terminals, or in VCDS on one of the measuring blocks for the engine. It should be around 14 to 14.5 volts, if it is not then check the blue wire from the alternator as in post #2. The no communications faults are to be expected with low battery voltage and should down grade to intermittent status, once everything is right with the electrical voltage.

^ +1 New battery and check charging, all should be good.

Check all the conections and fuses on top of the battery, these are prone to failure after disturbance, ie getting to battery terminals to jump start
