Fabia vRS Clutch Biting Point

Featured Replies

Is it possible to change the biting point? I've driven a Corsa for the last few years... unsure how the cutch is actually different...

I'm in a habbit of keeping the clutch all the way to the floor, the corsa used to bite around half way, used to be perfectly fine.

In the Fabia I keep missing the biting point, I'm reving before I even get to the biting point which is resulting in me going really slowly when moving off as I don't want to slip the clutch.

Even managed to stall it a few times just moving off after i've parked it.

I haven't done it the opposite way where I've crunched the gears... just seems to be finding the stupidly high biting point when moving off.

any tips apart from putting a brick under the clutch? lol

I thought it maybe just because it's a new car to me, but I've had it a month now and done plenty of miles in it.

give it a few days and you won't even remember what your old car was like

Im not sure if this is a good thing to admit, but in my VRS you could get biting point and set off without even using the accelorator.....lol

you will get used to it, they are in my mind one of the easiest cars to drive

try driving one with an uprated clutch.....now when im at biting point, im off.....hardly any travel

The ECU gives enough revs to stop the car stalling... Not sure of it's true technical name but it's normally referred to as the Anti Stall.

Very useful!... especially when in slow moving jams.. it works in second too if your gentle enough... and most likely 3rd but your DM fly wheel won't thank you! :)

To the OP.. like previously said.. after a short time you won't even think about it anymore.. when I picked up my vRS must have stalled it at least 3 times and wheel spun twice driving it home (all un intensionally)... Now I love it..

I initially wanted to know I could put the clutch to the floor, but as you get used to it you'll find this less important (think it's a confidence thing.. was with me.. vRS is only my second car).. aren't you finding your ankles are aching from being so close and going from the brake to the accelerator ;)

Yea, I don't use the accelerator when in slow traffic, i just let the clutch bite and the engine to move!

The clutch will slip a little while it's engaging but you will get used to it, it took me a while but now its fine mate

Edit: I never put the clutch to the floor now, it will change fine with 3 parts press down i find!

What you want to do mate is just let the car tick over and put it in first and slowly let your foot up with the handbrake off and you will feel the biting point (it might feel like it's juddering a bit but be persistant as it's just biting........don't worry, doing it a few times won't damage the cluctch or DMF I have done it since new and 90k on it's still fine!

let it bite and engage and you can get about 9mph

Mmm... my biting point is the opposite, it's way down close to the floor. So I stalled it a few times to start with, but as people have said you will get used to it. Maybe it's luck of the draw where your point is?

I also kept putting it in reverse when I didn't want to, which is left and up next to 1st, because having previously been used to a Vectra it didn't matter if you pressed down on the gear stick (the Vectra had a collar you had to lift to engage reverse). However not as bad as driving SWMBO's car which only has 5 gears and reverse is where 6th is in the Fabia. Been more than a few times when I have tried to reverse at 60mph thinking I was changing into 6th :)

What does it do, just crunch and refuse to engage?

Yes very very loud crunch. Luckily for me it never engages, I think that would be terminal for the gear box if it did. Have to keep repeating "No 6th gear... no 6th gear" when I'm driving it. Bet the people behind have a fright too if the reversing light comes on!
