New car

Still have my Fabia but we're looking at becoming caravanists in the next few months so the Mini Clubman has gone and has been replaced by this...

It's an '06 2.2 TDCi Ghia X. Was over £23k new. Picked it up for £8k with 34,000 miles and full service history from a Network Q dealer who also happen to own a Ford service centre.

Got a slight problem with the engine but the dealer I bought it from has said they'll get it fixed (only slight problem being that I bought it from somewhere 115 miles away!!!)

The 2.2 is hugely quick. Hasn't got the big lump of torque that turns up at 2000 revs like the 1.9TDi in the Fabia but still pulls like a train from 1800 to 4500rpm.

Much, much more refined too.

Being a Ghia X, it has lots of toys including climate seats that can cool too :D

Nice, looks clean and tidy.

sweet, i was literally about to put pen to paper on an estate version of the exact same car, absolute joy to drive, took one of them out and a 1.9cdti vectra 150, the vectra felt soooooo bad compared to that, id have one of them without a doubt

insurance put a stop to the whole buying of it though! they do ask silly prices at times:thumbdwn:

Brings back happy memories of mine :D

Btw, I can highly recommend putting some flatblade wipers on it - they're much more effective at clearing the screen, especially at speed, look much better, and they're genuine Ford parts too so they're a perfect fit.

Sorry but yawn :orb_yawn:

Obviously imo

That's some depreciation in 3 years! Bargain money for a lot of car. Not a big fan of Fords, but that one looks pretty good.

Recent Fords have benefitted from the poaching of one of VW's top designers, most noted for the current Passat. Since his tenure the Mondeo has leapt up to being a very worthy car. Also worth noting the Ford diesels are considered by many motoring journo's to be a better engine than the VAG units. I'd hazard that it'll be more reliable too, as we all know VAG reliability is a total myth. I'd consider one of these definitely.

Trouble is if you are towing that huge lump of torque comes in at just the right speed and makes towing so much easier

Nice, sensible car. (Looks cracking too...)

Yet another bl**dy caravan to foul up the roads though...

Nice looking car, is it a six speed 'box? just be prepared to tow alot in 5th as opposed to 6th as sometimes 6th is just off the torque band, as in the Oct'y 2.0tdi.

Yep, I bloody hate them too. Promise I'll pull over if I see a 2 mile train of cars behind!!! :D

Yep. Quite a long 6th too - doesn't like me using it below 50 when not towing and only pulls just under 2000 revs at 70!

Don't get me wrong, it's not lacking in torque. Just doesn't come in one big lump like the Fabia's does.

Thanks for all the comments!

Nice car. Looks very clean n tidy. I used to drive the ST tdci at work and it was a lovely handling motor with enough power for any situation. I think the '06 cars had the turbo issues ironed out, as the earlier ones used to go into limp mode alot and require either switching the engine off n on again or a lengthy trip to the stealers.
