The funs gone down!!!

Now...Does anyone know a good and cheap re-sprayer?? :D

No, I think you'll find there's good OR cheap.

In my limited experience, the cheap option means that the preparation has been skimped & you'll be finding imperfections for a long long time afterwards.

(looks for a smiley of a sobbing classic car owner shaking his head every time he looks at his paint)

Yeah paint work is all in the prep, you could do the prep yourself and then trailer to a paint shop, would be a lot cheaper!

I am considering that, but I'm pretty sure my employees are getting sick of my car cluttering up the workshop. If I started adding dust and paint to that, I wouldn't be too popular.

Well I could take it off your hands...

HaHa....I kinda walked into that one didn't I? :)

Lol - it's ok :)

I'm not gonna bother making an offer, I don't want to offend (because I have no idea!), but if you do wanna sell, give me a PM?

I may laugh, but I wouldn't be offended! :)

Im enjoying using it at the moment, but could do with more space, so i'll think about it :D

nice job there mate,

I'm still confused as to what exactly you have used though. could you, or someone spell out exactly what is needed to lower 40mm from stock, standard fun.

so far i've gathered that the standard springs found on a Mk4 golf will do for the back as far as springs go (but which springs from a golf?front or rear). what else is needed for the rear?

and what is needed for the front

the more specific - the better :)

thanks

Thanks,

The springs I fitted were bought from Bassy-Alex on here who had lowered his fun, but couldn't live with it because of the condition of his local roads (It is a hard ride). So he returned his to the orginal ones and I had his lowering ones.

You might want to PM Alex to find out where he got them.

As far as I know, the front springs are standard felicia lowering springs which are easily available. The rear springs are from a Mk4 Golf Gti - standard rear springs. Nothing else is needed as the standard shocks are suitable for lowering by 40mm.

It was an easy job to do. Covered in the Haynes manual if you have one. if not, I'll be happy to post a "how to" on here.

I also changed the shock absorbers as the old ones were getting rusty.

I don't think its the best way to lower a fun, but it is cheap to do and makes it look alot better.

To me, the lowered front end is fine, but the rear either needs a slightly stiffer spring or better damping as it it a little bouncy. However its still acceptable.

The car handles much better in the corners, but the ride is hard, so potholes, speedbumps and any large bumps in the road become an issue!

I have to do this next week. How long did it take to do the front and the back. Did you change any of the suspension components/bushes whilst you were at it?? I have the springs but if there is jazz worth changing i would like to have it ready. The ride height on that looks spot on i think. Think the wheels suit it too!! Any more hints and tips would be good as i don't have a haynes :-(

Is it not leaf springs on the back?

Is it not leaf springs on the back?

Not on the Fun. I'm not sure if the pick-up has leaf springs. I know the Pick-up and Fun were based on MkII caddys which do have leaf springs.

Ah right, so don't have the old "flip the rear axle" instant lowering!

Is it not leaf springs on the back?

Nope it's not. Not like the VW early pickups. Or most pickups. Has some random suspension. So you use the felicia front springs and mk4 golf rear ones. Splitting two kits what a ball ache. Either that or coilies or air but that is big bucks and my truck just isn't worth it.

So how long will it take me. Want to know so i can plan my day better :-) As i might have a go at the fifth gear bolts and gearoil whilst im playing.

I never changed any of the components/bushes as they were all fine. I did change the shocks, which were still ok but looking really rusty.

My best tip....Buy a Haynes! Although I didn't use it, its pretty good for showing how do remove and re-fit the suspension. If you dont want to get one, let me know and i will post a basic "how to" on here.

Took me about 6 hours.....but I'm not a mechanic and I have this ability to put a tool down next to me, then reach for it again and amazingly its disappeared!!!

No difference in the chasis setup on the fun and the pickup. Basically a skoda felicia made into a pickup. The fun is a pickup with a body kit and the sliding rear wall with two extra folding seats. Making it...... fun. Came out at the time of volkswagen group taking over skoda. HEnce why there is pickups in skoda and VW guise (not funs though they only came badged as skoda).

:-)

Well i have done suspension on other cars just not on a skoda before so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll get it all done and then tracked and have some before and after pics. A basic how to is never going to be a bad thing though. Nothing worse than when the tool you were just using has disappeared from reach and seems to have travelled to the other end of the car.

Looks good though. Suprised at how low it is from just the spring kit :-) With my hefty diesel lump the sump will be on the floor :-)
