Bike Carriers on the Octy?

Featured Replies

Can these be used with the Octy VRS?

Getting the little on a new bike for her 9th birthday and want to take her out on it (also means i'm going to have get one as well...........expensive birthday!) Would need to carry 3 bikes.

Would it have to be some sort of roof mount jobby or is it a on the back window thing?

Not had one before so i really have no idea, on halfords they are all on cars with a flat back and say they can't be used on a car with a spoiler.

Any info you have would help, cheers

A bit more initial out lay but your paint will thank you for it...

Roof bars + bike carriers are much better. The Octy has mounting points which makes fitting them a piece of cake and they are much more secure than boot mounted ones.

This is the route I'm going with mine. Just bought a set of second hand roof rails for mine from Ebay to go with the two Skoda cycle carriers I bought yesterday :)

Glad I bought a light weight bike!

Thanks gents, any ideas what i should be looking for? I'm clueless when it comes to this!

I have the Thule roof bars and some cheap bike carriers :)

I have a bike carrier which used to fit my Felicia, and didn't want to change it when upgrading to the Octavia. It worked fine on the hatch, and now I have an estate - and it fits that too! Its a paddy hopkirk and has been great. It hasn't damaged any paint work either.

I don't think I could easily lift my bike onto the roof. On my friends Golf we had to lift it on and off together (roof carrier) and it was very difficult. I have enough trouble lifting it onto the back of the car.

I have a Thurle towbar one for my estate. Takes 3 bikes, and is? (was) on offer at Halfords for about £105. Obviously you need a towbar (I understand it works with swan-neck ones too, as does not have a piece of metal which clamps in behind the towball). Came complete with a light board.

Less drag by having the bikes behind the car too - guess it depends on how car your travelling. If your bikes are assembled out of pig-iron/scoffolding poles then you won't want to be lifting them onto the roof!

The only thing with going for a rear mounted bike rack Is the top straps will probably rub on the spoiler on the VRs hatchback & as there Isn't any metal surrounding the top of rear windscreen. The top strap hangers will have to hook directly on the glass at the top, which Isn't very safe.

Thule are a very good product & they do various different types of roof mounted carriers. This link Is where I bought mine from Thule Roof Mounted Cycle Racks

I still have some carriers for sale If they suit your bike(s) & they are advertised in the "for sale" section http://briskoda.net/items-sale/mtb-equipment/149955/

Oz.

Picked up the generic 3 bike carrier from Halfrauds for about 50 (on sale).

Not the best fit to be honest but it does the job and is paint safe (soft plastic coated clasps) also doesn't go anywhere near spoiler
