Two Skoda Family

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've had a Roomster Scout 1.9tdi for just over a year (from new!) and my daughter has recently acquired a 2003 Fabia Estate 1.9sdi

Both nice cars in their own way.

welcome to briskoda, how do you find the roomster scout?

I love it. Its so versatile - 5 comfy seats (so long as the 5th passenger isnt too broad), or I can take all the back seats out and use it like a van. Its quicker than I expected (previous car was an Audi Quattro 2.5tdi estate, so I have been a bit spoiled) and isnt bad on fuel (it could be much better if I didn't have a heavy foot:O). It handles well and roadholding is good until it snows, when those low profile wide tyres are absolutely useless. Surprisingly stable in gusty crosswinds given the shape, and civilised cruising at motorway speeds (and beyond;))

And *much* cheaper to run than the Audi:thumbup:

Only 4 very minor niggles so far :-

1. the front pillars obstruct the drivers view quite a lot - have to be careful pulling out of side roads,

2. the position of the lighter/aux power socket near the handbrake is a design flaw - if you leave the lighter out (I dont smoke and use it to power mobile phone, MP3 or such like) and dont plug anything in, then your jacket zip falls into the socket and blows the fuse - did this 3 times before I realised what was causing it,

3. the fly-by-wire throttle sticks a bit when the engine is cold, so gearchanges have to be very slow for the first few miles. I am sure this is a warranty fault but my local dealer has failed to fix it so far,

4. and finally the plastic trim on the outside of the O/S front windscreen pillar - in snow the wipers pack the slush under it where it freezes to solid ice - when it thaws it expands and breaks the clips that hold it on. Hoping to get this replaced under warranty next time it goes in.

Next project is fitting a towbar that I have just bought - looking for advice with the wiring if anyone can help. (twin electrics for caravan - need to run wires from the front through the car - not sure of the best route and how easy it is to remove trims without damage)

Many thanks for all the welcome posts - you are a friendly bunch:thumbup:
