Drying Towel

Featured Replies

I've decided to move onto to modern technology and bought a Meguires Drying Towel as recommended by several Briskodians. Yesterday gave Soot1e a shampoo & set and started drying the panels off. I gave the new towel a good soak in luke warm water before I used it, wrung it out and set about the removing the water and I was not impressed, no matter how many wipes I gave over the same area of wet panel there was always some water streaks and spots left. After my dissapointment I dug out my trusty Chamois and went over an adjacent area of panel and within 2 wipes the water was completely removed. I then compared the towel with the Chamois alternately on each panel, wringing out each cloth with the same frequency and every time the Chamois removed water more effectively so the panel was squeaky clean and dry. The towel just did not do what I thought it was capaple off and I'm dissapointed.

IMHO the Megs Drying Towel isn't that good but you shouldn't soak the towel before use, you should use it dry, it's not like a chamois..........

If your a Costco Member I would invest in a Eurow Waffle Weave Two Pack on sale there for under £10 at the moment, much better.......

I use the Megs water magnet towel and find it's pretty good.

Once it's soaking wet it gets pretty useless though, so wetting it before you started probably wasn't the best move!

I bought a Meg's water magnet waffle weave towel on monday myself,

Not that impressed either!! Used it straight out of the packaging, Thought maybe I should have pre treated it some how?

It soaked up water no problem, but constantly needed ringing out, & it took me ages to dry the car, had to go over it several times before the panels were dry & streak free.

Cost me £12.99 !! Chucked my chamois away, thinking the Megs towel was going to be the bee's Knees, Maybe I just had too much beading water on the car for the towel to handle?!!

I've used a Water Magnet for years and it's always done the trick. But I do seem to be in the minority! I'm maybe thinking that it might be water hardness related? Just a thought :rubchin:

I also have an Elite one now, that I use as well and it is good :)

Good tip on the Costco front too Baker - might pick up some of those too

Cheers,

Steve

I'll give it another go next wash!

The shop advised me to soak it 1st. time and it will always be wet when being used so it's impossible to keep dry.

Everywhere I read about drying towels they say that Meguires is the best, now you are all telling me different, aaaaaaagggggghhhhhhh!

So the brand I want is Eurow Waffle Weave Two pack, any particular colour?

I would agree with you there on the hardness suggestion Steve, I think that's a big part to play in it...........

Get yourself down to Costco, they are a bargain at that price.......

Not saying you have to buy Eurow mate but I have had good results with them, I was going to post up a picture of the packaging but after the stick from my 'trolley jack' thread I binned all the packaging...........

They only come in one colour mate from Costco, yellow with black stitching........

I've been very impressed witht the Sonus Der Wunder drying towels i have to say.... not quite as large as the one i got from polished bliss (cant remember which one that was tbh) but the quality and gauge of weave to the towel has meant that it easily drys the whole car off... and if using Last touch along with it, brings a very nice finish for just a wash :) like can be seen in pic to left

SPot on comment imo - this is exactly what I use - SOnos Der Wunder and it kills my old megs drying towel in terms of performance. I also tried the last touch hint when using the drying towel - amazing, quick results.

I use the Megs towel and dont rate it that highly however it does do the job, If I unfold it and lie it flat, pad the surface and remove, it tends to leave the weave pattern behind but by the time I've done the next panel the previous is clear and dry! May sound a simple question but how does everyone else use theirs?

i currently have very respectable beading from the use of the sonus drying towel and LT this morning i have to say :D best thing i ever started using i think LT whilst:thumbup: drying!

Oh and something else i have noticed is that the LT on windscreen really makes a difference to the efficiency of the wiper blades... acts very much like rain X etc - double value i think :D

I do a few careful light wipes with a silicone squeegie blade thing from Costco to shift the bulk of the water, then mop up the remaining with a Eurow drying towel, again from Costco.

I really wouldn't use the blade on paintwork. The slightest bit of grit/debris on the blade or paint and you'll draw nice shapes on your car

Just use the towel; more than capable of handling all the water.

You should try meguirs last touch mate if you havent already... while the paint is in the rinsed stage... spray the panels... and wipe with drying towel... makes a big difference to the finish :D

just thought id add crappy phone pic... taken just now to show LT effect:

Yeah, I must admit it has concerned me and I've always been very careful with it. Just so we're on the same page, the thing I'm talking about is made entirely of transparent silicon with a double 'V' lip edge and is quite wide. It's designed and sold for use on car paintwork. I just do the roof and bonnet with it immediately after rinsing the shampoo off when they're still thoroughly wet to kind of lubricate it.

I'll give the Meg's LT a go. How different is it from their NXT Speed Detailer?

I know exactly what you mean; I have an Autogylm one I use on glass. It's just not worth the risk on paintwork IMO, for not much return and a lot more risk, when a towel can do it all for you anyway.

LT is quite similar to Speed Detailer, probably not as thick a solution. Does the same job though, is better value for money and can be watered down if you wish.

Hiya mate... is that more so than LT then, as i use LT 50:50 anyway with water and it still gets good results without much extra effort in the drying stage :)

Megs LT smells nice, which is the only real reason I use it to help dry the car :D

The Megs drying towel was the worst one I ever bought. It's not even good enough for door shuts.

Loose the water blade Nick, your killing that lovely Race Blue colour..........

No, no, no, no, no!

No, no, no, no, no!

:D It's not as bad as these....

I find the megs towels need to be treated with kid gloves to get the best out of them , a bit of a tumble with a drying sheet (dont fully dry it) after washing or a touch of fabric softener when washing and they are much better .

Its also a must to wash them after each use you'd be surprised how many people dont bother , there are a lot better ones available of course
