PD130 Superb Tyres ?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

As a new Superb owner (PD130 Comfort with 17" wheels) I am very impressed with the performance and economy but wonder if my right foot and the PD130 torque is getting too much exercise!? My normal mileage pattern includes at least 80% on the motorway at 75-80 under cruise control and the remainder with fairly enthusiastic and very enjoyable use of the power and torque but after 17000 miles in 7 months both front tyres (Continentals) have only 2-3 mm left and obviously I'm not going to reach 20,000 before replacement. My previous car (a Volvo 2.4 S80 Auto) averaged 32000 for the fronts and 60000 for the rears. Alright I know it was a petrol with much less torque but it had 40 bhp more and I haven't changed my mileage pattern or driving significantly - does anyone have any experience on tyre wear on the PD130 Superb, whether the Continentals wear rapidly and which tyres suit the car best - I have some tyre noise and (17" wheels I suppose are the main reason) the ride seems less comfortable than I remember on the test drives?

Anyone chipped a PD130 engine - who didi it and what benefits/disadvantages?

Grateful for any useful advice etc

Got 16",s on my Superb, shod with Bridgestones. It has done 11k in 18 months and the front tyres are about 50-70% down, and I reckon come 20k they will need replacing if not already been done (I am talking fronts here).

Chances are its the use of torque and the power steering scrubbing them as well, not forgetting its a heavy nose....I know mine is.

I like the continentals on my Octavia RS the standard ones are conti sports and I got about 32K on the fronts. On my Superb with 17" alloys Bridgestone potenza RE040's the fronts lasted about 17K however the first 7k was not done by me and think they were a bit over worn. I think my replacement fronts will probably last a bit more than this. Mines a 2.8v6 so the front is pretty heavy.

Thanks Andy & John

I'll probably stay with the Continentals this time and having read the thread on warranty problems from a re-map mod I guess I'll be staying standard until after warranty period and first MOT time. Any problems expected on re-mapping a PD after 90,000 miles ???

Phil

My mitchelins lasted 12k on the Fabia vRS (PD130), now fitted with Toyo Proxies (Really Good Tire).

There's 1 or 2 diesels on here modded at over 90k miles so I would not worry about that.
