Hello everyone & dealer advice

Featured Replies

I would like to say hello to everyone at Briskoda. I have been reading the forums for a couple of weeks now and it has been a great help in deciding on my new car (Octavia vRS, black magic).

Most of my questions have been answered by trawling through past threads & lots of good tips picked up (white interior, water leaking into boot etc.)

One thing I would appreciate is some advice on the following:

I live in the south, but my local dealer will not give me any discount apart from including the metallic paint. They keep referring to the fact that the price has recently dropped by

Buying from 1 dealer, and expecting another to service it could be awkward. Some people have found this to be true..

Why not use the online quote as leverage with your local dealer ? :)

Most dealers run sales and servicing seperately so it shouldn't make a difference where you buy it from.

I would go back to your local dealer and be straight with them. Tell them you've been offered the car for a lot less elsewhere and ask what they can do to match it. They may not be able to go the full

I have tried everything, apart from waving a wad of fifties, with my local dealer and they just won't budge. What worries me now is that they know my face / details and that it might become an issue in 12 months time.

Its obviously something you have to consider - the dealer could be fine about it (mine has no problems dealing with a car bought somewhere else) but they can also be difficult. Having said that, check to see how many other dealers are around you - if there are plenty of other options at least you can go somewhere else if that one doesn't play ball.

Also, check the dealer reviews (or name the dealer and ask people to PM on their experiences) as im sure someone on here has dealt with the dealer before and let you know what they are like. Have fun! :)

I bought mine from a dealer in Kent and have it serviced at my local dealer in Basingstoke.....no probs.

When I was looking the local dealer was contacting other dealers, found a few lower than he could match and would transporter it to my local branch as it's passing sort of thing.

It might be worth asking the Northern dealer.

I have purchased two cars now, neither from my local dealer, but both serviced there. No problems atall despite the legwork and I was concerend since one ofthe last calls I had from the sales team in reference to the above example was along the lines of "Thanks for making us work so much for nothing". But the servicing side have been excellent thus far.

I have frequently ended up servicing my cars at dealers other than the one I bought from. Never had any problems. The only thing was the dealer in Oxford would only give a loan car to people who had bought their car from them. However this is not really an issure as the only dealer who ever actually offered me a loan car was also one that I had not purchased from.

Look on this way, you are offering them business, not them offering you a favour by servicing your car.

Winchester Motor Co are brilliant, we bought both our Octys elsewhere but the servicing is the best weve ever had from any dealer at any time in the past on all our previous cars

Thankyou for all the advice.

I have just put down my deposit with the dealer in the North, great excuse for a drive back and already looking at different routes on A roads.

Winchester is only about 30 miles away so if I do have problems with my local dealer, I will take the car there.

Hope to be posting my views soon.

Can I ask what sort of deal you got? (PM if you prefer)

I am once again tentatively looking at a vRS. Though in my case it would be an estate. I am assuming we are talking old shape here not new shape?

Both my Octys were bought from different dealers and serviced at others. I don't think you should have any problems. BTW where 'Up North' is the car coming from?

Now that's an idea.....

fare enough, maybe the deal isnt as good as i thought.... serves me right for not takin me own advice. lol, coz of you i may have reason to renegotiate with my dealer. that place on the net i gather. tvm will look into

It may be that "most " dealers will be ok but I can say from personal experience that not all will do service or warranty work on cars supplied elsewhere and this can make it difficult. To be honest I think the current situation is totally unacceptable and I think that skoda uk should start to have a long hard look at a few dealers > i know from satisfaction surveys that the vast majority are very good but if your local one isnt its bad news.

I wasn't planning on posting until take delivery (23rd Oct) but noticed this thread has moved back up.

Pete247 - I think your price is good considering Xenon, ESP, Sunroof & Cruise. I reckon taking into account the options over and above what I am getting, you have paid about the same as me.

CRA - Hello again. The DTD price does not include all the options which work out at
