its also under the cover on the foam.

EGR valve , common-ish problem , take it back to the dealer

the place i got it from (available car castle donigton) had a few and they all had it , the bloke who dealt with us had a vrs too and said his did it , it had one of those 200+ checks so surely it cant be breaking already ? is this an easy fix ? eg - while i wait ?

thanks ric04vrs...

Mine has a similar leak albeit not as bad as that!!

oil should not be leaking from the EGR , so it is faulty

maybe the engine was steam cleaned before you bought it , hence removing the oil residue making it look ok when checked

i've not changed an EGR valve , but my guess is it will be about an hour or so to change

Is it the egr? why would the egr have oil in it?

Looks to me like its coming from the breather pipe, or a crack in the casing.

The breather pipe takes hot airated oil and feeds it into the intake system so surely its coming from that.

Have a look and see if you can see any hair line cracks in the casing, or take the breather pipe off and see if its cracked.

If your still unsure, clean it all off, then check it daily to see if you can see where its coming from before it spreads everywhere.

They have a "tell tail" hole in them so when the diaphragm in side fails it leaks. The VAG PD engine is known for having oil mist in the inlet system. All the car needs is a new EGR valve.

cleaned all round were it looks like the oil came from , it was there when i got it but the dealer said it normal, never had a diesal beofre or even a turbo so never thought to question him, cleaned nealrly all engine bay and long hard plastic tube that runs down the left of engine. seen a few people on here have replaced that with a stainless one, is a worth while mod ?

Main reason for replacing upper boost pipe, is to get rid of the OEM clip things that are prone to popping off under boost, most typically at the bottom where it connects to the intercooler. The stainless pipe has a lip on each end which you jubille clip behind which makes it really secure. Secondly it gives you a bit of engine bling :D

right . i checked it today after a 50 mile round trip, slight oil mark from the small hole under the valve.

i think it was so dirty as before it was owned by a old man who i think would have never got under the bonnet to clean it so i think that was 3 years worth of build up lol..

geordie 21 were did u get the pipe from then ?

3mm pipe from B&Q about 80p a metre, or you can get it from aquatic shops. You'll also need a little regulator valve to reduce some of the air flow to stop the needle buzzing. You can buy these for a pound or so in aquatics shops or you can buy the proper metal ones from motorsports shops, demon tweeks / merlin motorsports etc.
