Quick release number plate holders

Featured Replies

A mate of mine had an S4 from Poole Audi which had quick release number plate holders on it. I called them and asked to buy a set and the guy on the phone promised to send me some... the never arrived and 18 months later I finally rang again and asked to buy another set

Unfortunately they don't stock them anymore. I did buy a set from GTI International last year but it's virtually impossible to fit a set of UK number plates in, I suspect they'd be fine with the metal continental ones or something but no use for ours (rip off).

Anyone know where I can get a set? I want to be able to change my plates for showplates for trackdays and stuff.

Cheers - can't see any on the website mentioned though?

They call them "surrounds" - third item down on lhs menu bar

Ben - try Dubmeister:

The ones discussed on that thread just go behind plates, rather than hold them - so won't be much use if you want to swap plates for shows.

Ah - I thought it was Dubmeister he was trying - thats where my "third item down" comment refers to anyway!

Tell you what Steve - we've got both types on our cars so when I get 5 mins I'll do a pictorial guide to number plate holders and surrounds and pressed plates and show plates etc - this question keeps cropping up!

Good call Andy, as I'm confused too :D

I had some from Dubmesiter and they were very good. They were a little fiddly though for swapping plates as they are designed to make stealing the plates harder. You have to use a plastic key thing in a slot on the underside.

I had some custom logo'd Klipp Top IIIs from a German ebayer a few years ago and they were really easy to swap the plates, you just pulled the bottom flap hard and it pivotted down. Swap the plate and it just snapped back shut...

Yes, that's the same design pictured as my proper Wolfsburg ones.

Going back to Dubmeister - None of them look like they'll hold the plate, so I'm still at a loss there

I found some Wurth ones on ebay yesterday from a towing shop, I think they're the ones Poole Audi used to use.

Get some metal pressed plates from Dubmeister too! They do the legal ones and I got myself a set in the Golf MKIV forum group buy... TBH I think they are all designed to hold the metal plates.

Anyone having issues getting on the Dubmeister site? Was going to order some plates but the site comes back with host issues, something along the lines of not paying for the running of it.

Try ringing tsr as they bought Dubmeister out last year, probably something to do with this.

HTH

I got my wurth lockable from craig plates. 2 for roughly £14 incl postage. Currently has the original plates in fine, but will hold my metal ones when I sort the plate transfer

I have some of the Dubmeister one's on my car..... I just sanded down the bits that go in front of the numberplate and hold it in place so as to fit the plates in ok.

I can assure you they fit ok

Cheers

Dave.

my german mk2 has these on and they are great, they work well with both metal plates and uk plates, the only thing is is that you could take them out quite easily i think making cloning/theft more easy.

If you're going to order some custom ones in Czech / German, double check your grammar to avoid looking like a nob...

I drove around with those on for months before I had doubts and double checked it. FAIL! :D

Who makes the custom ones?

:confused:what does it say?

I translate as

I got to be more in Bavaria

I used to live in Munich and loved it. So when I moved back here I got plates which I intended to say "I'd prefer to be in Bavaria", but because my German is scheisse, I double checked the text on the web and I think it's grammatically dodgy.
