Octavia Vrs - Really Happy But.......

Don't get me wrong I'm really pleased with my car but already there are a few things that have soured the relationship.

The car is a 51 plate and has 6k miles on the clock but after taking delivery I have noticed a few minor teething troubles:

1. The rear hatch locking mechanism is US and needs replacing. Separate thread - dash light driving me crazy now disconnected.

2. There was no sidelight bulb in the front n/s headlight. I have replaced myself. A car shouldn't be sent out like this surely??

3. The alarm sounds about an hour after locking the car. Have overridden manually for the time being but very nervous about leaving without protection.

4. The isolator for the rear elec windows is US and springs back up. No good with kids in the back.

A call to the dealer on friday and he has ordered some parts so should be sorted this week. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come :( it's just annoying that I have to return the car to get these problems put right.

US! They don't sell Skoda's in the US, that's extremely weird. The US cars are made in Mexico and Brazil anyway... Obviously somebody totally screwed up a ton of vehicles, since it's not like they have US inventory in Prague.

Speedy, "US" is British slang for broken

Jimmy, Hopefully you are just very unlucky & the dealer should put right ASAP. If you have more problems & are at all suspicious of its history ask the dealer to let you speak with the previous owner, If the dealer wont tell you the log book will give you details of the previous owner.

Hmmm. I thought the vRS didn't actually have an alarm as a standard feature. Is this an accessory fit?

Does seem to be a bit variable - my '52 plate has done close to 30K with no problems, as has the other fleet vRS on site, but I've heard of one or two problem cars.

Hope your car gets sorted quickly!

Sounds like you're extremely unlucky with both the car and the dealer (i mean, don't they check these things?). But, as it is fully within the warranty, they should be able to put things right without any costs (other than inconvenience and time) to you.

Just called the dealer and to be fair he was very apologetic and wanted to help. The switch for the rear hatch should be in on Wednesday so car will be taken in all day Thursday to fix the above problems.

The alarm is an aftermarket one I believe but I bought the car from the dealer with the alarm fitted so in my book he should fix it if there's a problem. I suspect however that the problems with the rear hatch switch are triggering the alarm but I'll see what Thursday brings.

I hope the issues I've got at the moment are minor teething troubles because the car is absolutely mint in all other respects and I want to keep it that way.

My "y" plate RS had the duff isolator switch for the rear windows -I'm suprised they still have dud ones about. Took me a long time to explain to the dealer what was wrong, 'til I dragged the service manager out and showed him the problem. He said the technician had spent 20 minutes playing with the windows, trying to re-create the fault!

Ho Hum.

Jimmy,

Enjoy your car - thats a very low milage one you have picked up for the year so should be a good buy.

Although the RS didn't come with an alarm as standard - there is a thatcham 2-1 upgrade offered as an official Skoda Accessory, I had mine fitted by my Skoda dealer from new and was

well im paying around 15,100 for a vrs with cruise and parking sensors and 3 year gap cover. ive read responses on here that i still have more to bargain for. But im not good at haggling, do u think its worth a try to throw the alarm in or just wait till i got the car and then shop around.

We had a thread a little while ago about alarms and Trackers;

the "Skoda" alarm is a CAT1 upgrade; it doesn't operate the c/l through the standard keyfob you have to use the one supplied with the alarm.

You could probably get a better one for the same money from an alarm specialist or you could get an RAC TracStar for less but have to pay a subscription for monitoring.

An alarm won't bring your insurance down by that much; it's more for your piece of mind. A tracker does make a saving but the overall cost (inc subscription) outweighs this.

I did neither and got a disklok instead.

If I were to get a bigger rear spoiler and wheels then I would probably go for a Tracker.

Cheers.

Adrian.

I wish manufacterers of cars recognised that there is a problem with car theft in general and fitted Trackers and Alarms as standard. It can't be that expensive to do it whilst you have the car on the production line, so added costs to a car can be reduced. They don't make any money on the aftermarket anyway, so at least it puts some extra money into their pockets...

John,

Thanks for the info. I don't have a separate fob for the alarm it's all driven from the main key fob.

I think I've got to the bottom of the alarm issue. In the meantime I've disconnected the rear hatch switch to extinguish the light on the dash. The alarm has not sounded at all since so think it should be ok.

Personally I'm glad I've got the immobiliser but no alarm - the latter are mostly annoying

and too often ignored to be of much use.

Unless you get one of those growling proximity ones that are oh-so popular with the

Scooby owners... :D

Dam right it's annoying and it is no doubt costing you time and money; we shouldn't have to put up with it. What's a side light bulb between friends......not much you may say. BUT the fact that is missing means it couldn't possibly have been checked. It is a very basic oversight and will undoubtedly make you question the dealer
