Big Brother insurance from MoreThan

Very odd. Nice bit of 'greenwash' that. All the FAQs say that it's only for your benefit, the data won't affect your premium in any way, except:

What happens at the end of the pilot?

The Green Wheels Insurance policy will run for a period of 12 months, subject to the normal terms and conditions of the policy. Over the course of that period we will monitor and review the pilot to decide whether we are able to offer renewal on the same basis or whether we can offer an alternative policy, subject to our eligibility criteria

So if you've been driving like a hoon they might decide they are unable to offer you a renewal presumably.

I'm sure mappers would be able to put something in to fool the "greenbox" in the future anyway :D

Some leasing companies are already using the technology to get details regarding their cars. One member on here has a SWMBO whos company car is fitted with such a device.

Yeah, I think there are some limited mileage insurance policies too. It's just the green trojan horse element of this one that's kind of scary.

Exactly.

Green is the new tax for dummies, like organic.

Give it ten years we will all have this crap in out car giving us £1000 premiums... or 'green' tax, 50mph speed limiters etc .

i remember when norwich union started this pay as you drive insurance, dont like the thought of it whatsoever, its bad enough cameras been everywhere and the likes without being watched with everything i do

thing i dont understand is, if the whole global warming/co2 emmisions is such a big deal, then why am i seeing more and more 4x4s and cars with high outputs of co2, you would think if it was supposedly putting the world at risk they would make everyone drive around in smart cars

Are you?

Are you?

much more, on a daily basis i see more land rovers, x5's and q7's than smart cars, prius', and other "green" motors by a massive margin,

also focus ST's and the likes, seems to be an awful lot of high performance cars around

sorry to DP but i dont just mean im comparing how many 4x4's to green motors, i mean i see alot of 4x4s around, theres not a journey i dont make where i dont see some clown in a range rover thinking hes some sort of gangster

I wouldn't class a focus ST as environmentally unfriendly, apart from when it's orange and it's then unfriendly to the eyes :D

nor would i really but if the planet is in the state we are told on a daily basis off every kind of advert, charity, and local green peace rep i would have thought cars of even the higher side of emisions would be banned, but hey maybe the rise in road tax and fuel means gordon brown can load a massive cannon full of cash and fire it at the ozone layer, might fix it

They're the best ones!

I have seen pretty much the same number of high performance cars these days.

I remember the time when 4x4 centres were springing up everywhere then people carriers (this is going back a loong time!! prob 15 years

My cars not eligible for this green thingy though..... oh well.

Most 4x4's emit less than or the same as your Octy ;)

Its just another reason to tax us and win votes from uneducated environmentalists.

get a cheapish old banger and get it fitted, drive like miss daisy in it, after a year when they recommend your insurance change it then to cover the vrs

My mate did that, then got told but since you have no experience in a powerful car...blah blah blah. Untill you are 25 they screw you, granted they do start to go a bit easier on you at 21

im kinda looking at this as im with more than anyway, just thought perhaps they might write to me and offer me it as most of my driving round here is at an average speed of 40mph, not much chance of speeding on most of my journeys and once out of the town i tend to be at about 1500rpm in 6th and usually get most journeys done at around 40-45mpg.

However it doesnt say if they will knock money off your insurance for driving like miss daisy or bump it up for driving with concrete boots

let the factory ecu deal with the plug in box then run a piggy back unit with all the perfomance software to fool the unit :-)

As someone else said - this will probably be standard policy for all cars in the future. I think I will hold onto my existing car forever! I don't want them tracking me all of the time. What is the world coming to?
