Wheel Bolt Query

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a set of 5 spoke GLXi E alloy wheels to fit to my Favorit, which currently has steel wheels, the only thing is the bolts didn't come with them.

Does anyone know if the bolts are the same for both wheel types or if they are specific?

Thanks in advance.

Depends what you have on the car already. I know for alloys wheels you need the bolts/nuts with the built-in washer to allow for the nut to turn and not dig into the alloy. This stops them from corroding or being weakened I think.

Which bolts do these require, think about buying some. Will the bolts from the standard steel wheels fit?

Size is 13 x 5.5J as opposed to the standard 13 x 4.5J steels

Generally , I think the rounded ones are for the steel ones and the tapered are for alloys

So you will find going one to the other , you may need to change the bolts

Cracking oic that to show the differences

If you look closely/feel you should be just about able to tell the type of seat needed.

I knew I had it somewhere.... Here's a pic of the actual bolts side by side. Top one is alloy wheel ball seat (and just happens to be an official Skoda locking bolt), bottom is steel wheel tapered type.

Im pretty sure my steel wheels use the round bolts .. will have to check. Hopefully I can just throw on the alloys using these! :P

The alloys on a fun are held on with the same bolts as used for steel wheels. IIRC most vw group cars use the same bolts for steel and alloy wheels
