Pen mark on red leather

Featured Replies

My sister has a Daihatsu Copen which has nice red leather seats. Unfortunately whilst on holiday my youngest sister got a pen mark on the bolster of one of them! :thumbdwn: It is about 2 inches long. My sister who owns the Copen was a bit annoyed to say the least, as it is nearly new. She has tried auto glym leather creamer, and cleaning products with no luck.

Has anyone got any ideas on how this mark can be removed? I haven't any ideas as I have never had the pleasure of owning leather seats, only bog standard material!

What sort of pen was used to create the mark.

Sorry it was a biro

Try the Orange Zymol leather cleaner spray you can get in halfords in combination with a medium pile microfibre cloth.

I've got pen off with this before.

Cheers for that mate. I will let her know.

Have you 'googled' the problem?

Can be very tricky to remove after it's set....normally about 24 hours.

If all else fails you could try thinners, but it could take the colour out with the ink. Try a remote part of the seat first.

Last resort is to recolour the seat panel via a leather repair specialist.

Before you get to thinner or recolouring, since it's biro just try an pencil eraser or a biro eraser, being very careful with the latter as it's abrasive.

This is assuming a cleaner can't lift it.

The next thing to try is something like hairspray or deodorant (with alcohol).

The biro is just sat on the leather surface, so the abrasiveness of the eraser may well do the job.

Thanks for the further comments. I have sent her a link to these posts, I think its going to have to be very careful trial and error!
