It has an AM and an FM connection.

Your connector will only fit onto the FM plug on the MFD3

Is the FM one the inner or outer of the 2 ??? and will it still pick up AM

Didn't you already fit one of these before the repo man got it? Use the inner connector if you want FM + TMC. Use the outer one if you want FM + AM. Get an adapter if you want both.

Yes I fitted the repo one but did not get any instructions with it, the picture showing 2 connectors is the confusing bit it was suppled with a double adaptor shown in the middle pic

Right its in but I have to enter the code every time its turned on and off do I need to get it set so that does not happen?/

Also there is no sound there is a crossed off speaker in the top left I take it this is mute but cannot find the button to turn it on

The reentering code every time sounds like there's no power coming to it from the battery while the ignition is off. It could also be a really annoying anti-theft measure somewhat like using a code to lock the keypad of your phone...

As for the mute I presume you're tried turning the volume knob. Another possibility is that there are connections for a hands free phone kit that haven't been enabled correctly, so the radio thinks there's a phone call being made all the time...

Found the mute on the phone button, but still no sound I take it the unit has got to be set up with vag com?? before any sound comes out.

I have done a scan and its found all the stations available and is showing the station names

There isn't actually a mute button on the MFD3.

I've had this happen to me once and it managed to confuse me for ages as I too was looking for an "un-mute" button.

Switch on MFD3, no sound, speaker with line through it.

Simply turn the voulme knob to the right as if you're increasing the volume.

*Sorry if you've already tried this and I'm not trying to be clever or anything - but that's what happened on mine the once*

Just been back out to the car and put the key in and did not have to enter the code but there is still no sound from the radio, sat nav ,or the dvd that i tried

sat nav is spot on, and the dvd pic is quality

I pulled the unit back out and checked all conections they are all OK

Any the chance it has a max volume setting in the config that's set to zero?

You've tried turning the volume dial to unmute it?

  • Author

Yes have tried turning the vol up to max and have set the on vol to max

The mute button is on the phone one by pressing it it turns it on and off

Your MFD3 maybe configured to work with the external sound system, you need someone with vag-com to code it correctly and activate the internal amplifier.

Softcode should read 00412 for an Octavia fitted with 4 speakers (or more but not DSP Sound System), Cloth interior and a CD Changer

Just wondering if this need done??????????

Right went of out to work armed with a load of CDs and a couple of DVDs and they would not play or even load onto the system

Tried the factory reset nothing worked HELP

Those codes refer to an MFD2 and not the Columbus.

Always worth checking the coding as Manny says it may be setup for an external amp.

Stu, are you going to be adding the columbus coding to your website at all? I assumed it would be the same as the mfd2, but obviously not. I've got my columbus in now and was gonna borrow the vagcom cable from a mate to do over the weekend

Have you got the same problem, the nav works but no sound the radio works but no sound, the dvd wont show any download the CD wont play

i have tested the unit and sound worked fine. do you have an amp or something similar in your car? you need to let your skoda dealer code the unit properly for your car configuration they can do this within some minutes with the VW PC. or someone with access to vag-com can do it.

This was the reply from the seller, and no there is no amp??/

You really need to get it coded properly otherwise it will be impossible to read any fault codes to diagnose the fault. Have you checked the quadlock connections are secure.

There isn't actually a mute button on the MFD3
but there is one on the multi funtion steering wheel...

No, my Columbus is working fine, just needs coding to get it talking to the maxi dot and the abs sensors as well I'd imagine

I hadn't planned to because the coding for the columbus is much more intuitive once you get VCDS connected. It uses long coding via the long coding helper.
