Skippy41,

I had exactly the same problem with the MFD3 unit that I received from an Ebay seller ie

Everything lights up fine, radio stations can be found & CDs/DVDs can be played but none with any sound.

This turned out to be two things

1. The config of the MFD3 unit was, as mention by Manny set up for the sound system rather than the standard speaker system

2. I had the aerial connector on the wrong socket on the rear of the radio, it does actually fit on both and the radio works to an extent but if it is on the wrong one there is no sound REGARDLESS of source (radio, CD etc)

Definitely check point 2 as it is really easy to do - just swap to the other connector and switch on the unit - if there is sound then everyone is happy.

Regards MFD3 coding - if you're anywhere near Carlisle give me a shout.

Not so sure about that. I ran my MFD3 in my Octavia with the aerial on one then swapped to the other connector and had no problems.

Just trying to help!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, but I have tried it in both aerial connections, but it is still a mastery as to why the shop bought DVD and Cd's wont play once put in,I even waited just in case they had to download, I even looked for the transit screws just in case, then got number one daughter to load a few songs onto an SD card same result.

I will be at the stealer's on Tuesday to pick up another fascia as SWMBO stood on my other one, taken out of the house keeping LOL, and will let them check it out.

I was having a look at the labels on the unit and it was made last year so could it still be under skoda warranty???

Skippy,

Offer still stands, if you're anywhere near Carlisle over the next few days give me a shout and we'll check the coding with VAGCOM.

Just a few pics, what does the bit in pic 4 on the right of the unit plug back into, I cannot find where it came from but everything still works, its grey with a circuit board plugged in and is on the same cable that goes to the hazarded switch

And a few more

Date of manufacture as shown in pic 2, 23 02 2009

Difficult to be 100% sure on your 'spare bit' but it may be the aircon temp sensor that goes into the vent pipework.

Are there any menu settings for external amp? Or is this a vagcom only settable option?

No it's a VCDS adjustment only.

Would anyone know if a skoda dealer would swap it for a working model, thats if something is wrong with it, given the fact that it was manufactured on the 23 /02 2009 and has all the skoda stickers in place, surely it must be well within any skoda warranty

I'd be very surprised if a dealer did a swap. One look on the system will show it didn't come with the car and they can see if the serial matches any bought later as a dealer fit option.

They'll then send you back to where you bought it as per the UK Sale of Goods Act.

I'd go along with that.

If you choose to buy secondhand, there's no way a dealer will be liable to provide a relacement even if it is technically still within the warranty period.

You'll have to go back to the person who sold it to you I'm afraid.

the unit is from 2009 i have already packed it for you and will send it right after i received the parcel. You dont have to drive to anyone to get it fitted since the installation of these units is plug&play... you will be absolutely happy with this unit, i understand and dont know why this unit has a wrong part number... anyway its no problem cause i have another skoda rns510 unit which i just checked and its a full 1Z0 unit perfect for your car.

As the sat was working, even though no sound, I set a few destinations but could not find and post code input, to save putting in the full address, is there a post code function on them???

Just a thought the guy claims the unit will be plug and play, but I have a niggle in my mind that I read somewhere on here that the wiring could be different between a 55 plate octy and an 09 one, and a wire needs changing over, could someone clarify this

Hey Skippy...

vasey_05_400x267.jpg "This is just a saga now!"

VRStu, is doing his best along with a few others to help me get thing up and running and hopefully all I will have to do is replace the aerial as the amp at the base is waterlogged, will run a new cabble at the same time

Yes there is, but it needs at least V3 of the maps installed. If you dont have at least that version then postcode entry is not possible. To enter the postcode, go onto the address screen and it will say Twn/pcd on one of the touch buttons, press that and enter the code.

5 first digits of postcode only though...

The map he sent me had V4 on it would that have the 6 or 7 PC input???

You may have had the disk, but it may not have been installed on the HD. Easy way to tell is to put the nav dvd in the drive, and it will ask if you want to copy to HD. If it does nothing the the DVD is already installed.

Postcode is still only 5 digits only, even on the latest V4 disk. Even BMWs professional nav system is only 5 digit entry. V4 does nothing to change this, apart from the maps being slightly newer but still ancient.
