This one picture sums up my day. No doubt some more piccies and video to follow. None onboard from me as I forgot to take the screw to attach my camera to the mount :thumbdwn:

PS: The below pic wasn't even taken right at the end. ;) I'm sure someone has a pic of the wheel after it came off my car.

Racing slicks with grooves cut for running in the wet? :P

At least you got your moneys worth out of them

A great day. A few thank you's

  • Ed for organising
  • Motorsport events for a well run event
  • Jason for some truly scary passenger laps and the Briskoda guide to B&Q colour charts:rofl:
  • Becky for the "how to make friends and influence people" quote of the day. Boat anyone?:rofl:
  • Cliff for the long/short gearbox comparison
  • Lee for supporting the local farming community in these hard times :rofl::rofl:

A shame/belssing in disguise that my 4.10pm dash for diesel ended up with me retiring with a busted car :o

I have some on-board footage to edit and i'll post up tomorrow

Thanks to everyone for coming and having a good time, and representing Briskoda.

Shame that we didn't do Skoda's reputation for reliability very much good though. 7 Skodas and 4 break downs. HAHA. oops!

I was very impressed with my car on the day, especially with Toyo T1R front tyres (which were brand new at the start.. and aren't brand new any more! Haha) and the Ferodo DS2500 brake pads I was running. The car's pretty much everything I want it to be now. And it was encouraging that I could keep up with Cliff who's running a 177hp remap when I'm completely standard power wise ;) Something to do with being able to brake later with the better pads I'm guessing.

My thanks extend to everyone that came along - everyone there were nice people and it was a pleasure to meet you all. And also to Motorsport Events who organised a day for fantastic value, it was just a shame we didn't quite manage to get 10 cars and the free track tuition! :)

Jason - your car is mental and I admire your driving (or bravery? not sure which ;)) - you demand far more of your tyres than I ever would but I must admit you seemed in full control all of the time. I guess doing 3 or 4 track sessions in the space of 2 months helps :D

Anyone who is ever offered a passenger lap in the mongrel - take it - it's amazing - and I want a limited slip diff now :(

Also, those of you who attended and fancy more value-for-money track action, see here: http://briskoda.net/track-day-action/feeler-colerne-airfield-open-pit-track-day-05-10-2009-99-00-a/153254/

I just know how far to push the mongrel before it proper lets go. Combination of the odd trackday & the North Weald day last year have helped.

I won't be driving like that at the Ring though - not even close. Not worth it.

FOUR breakdowns? I only remember 2 proper breakdowns which involved a trip away to get parts. Are you including Barries rattle too? Who else had issues? Mine just kept on trucking.

1. Fabia boost clip

2. Octavia boost pipe split

3. Octavia rear speed sensor electronic failure

4. Fabia wheel noise/bearing?

All tuned cars though. My standard Fabia has been faultless through 2 track days ;)

And it was encouraging that I could keep up with Cliff who's running a 177hp remap when I'm completely standard power wise ;)

It was an experience/confidence/heatsoak thing :P The passenger laps with you in the afternoon showed that you were taking lines/entry speeds that i hadn't worked up to and that your braking was much more track based than mine which still included plenty of road based gentleness!

Top day was had by all i think - well maybe not Lee who spent all morning with his head under the bonnet. :thumbdwn:

I think that track work is a perfect way to finish off a set of "illegal for the road" tyres with my fronts having bald shoulders by the end.

Good news is that yesterdays rears will be due for some balding next time funds permit an excusion on track

Pics to follow shortly once photobucket finishes uploading them!

MSE-Hullavington 31st July '09

I'm buying a photo CD and will sort out Briskoda pics and upload them somewhere later. :)

The gathering - we also got infiltrated by a very tatty Octy VRS that was serving as support vehicle for a guy driving a purple Impreza who then, after long converstaions with Lee, spent the afternoon chasing him around the track!

Plenty of life left in that tyre!

Plenty of life left in that tyre!

If you over inflate it enough it should run on just the middle and you can make it completely slick! :D

Need to adjust the tracking so it crabs outward and wears the other half bald. :D

Really should be looking for a tyre garage to swap over the back tyres for new ones now. :o

I think one more should be added!

  • Barrie's "brown trouser" incident - exiting the hairpin in fourth instead of second and wondering where his power had gone

And i would like to add that Beryl is a brilliant boat like Octavia! :)

Cheers all for a great day

Comment for the day for me was Leesman saying it was a good job I came in when I did as he was on the verge of throwing up. My driving's not that bad surely!

  • Barrie's "brown trouser" incident - exiting the hairpin in fourth instead of second and wondering where his power had gone

and the bunny hop understeer  which, come to think of it could be the root cause of my NSF wheel issues :o

Cliff could I please have the originals of those photos? Love the one of the 3 wheels ;)

Which corner was it? The one after the sweeping left hander after the long straight, that brings you heading back towards the pit side of the track?

Excellent day out and the other half enjoyed her first track experience - when she was driving, not as a passenger though - felt sick after a couple of laps. Tractor parts seem to work wonders, no problem once the offending silicone hose was removed and replaced for a tractor bottom radiator hose! I'll sort out some pics of the tractor mod.

As for track time, once it was back on the road after lunch, some good fun was had although I did have a total of four excursions onto the grass, three coming out of the hairpin - torque steer in second didn't want the can to track right, the fourth was the hairiest moment, me chasing an Elise into the right hander over the far side of the track and we caught up a slow car rather too rapidly. The Elise was stopping, I wasn't - clocked nearly 80mph into that corner - I took to the grass to be on the safe side.

Sorry that I didn't offer any passenger rides, I will do next time assuming I don't lose a couple of hours in the hunt for hoses and fitting them. I've got a nice burn mark on my hand from the exhaust manifold to remember the day by.

Special thanks to Bernie for driving around Chippenham to find a replacement hose.

Final thought, the F430 sounded awesome on full beans.

P.S. Used less engine oil than I had anticipated

I saw 75 and stayed on tarmac so assume that's a good thing. :D The fezza was aweomse sounding but I overtook it none the less

Thanks to Ed for organising our track day and Jason for bringing a comprhensive tool kit.

I had one early problem with an i/c hose popping off, luckily only a jubillee clip loosened itself and was lost somewhere on the back straight, a trip to the tractor spares shop with Lee sorted his problem and mine out.

One off my daughters came along with me to experience the track for her 1st. time,

scared her to death charging down the main straight at 110mph and doing a bit off late braking before going round the hairpin, she soon got used to this and giggled the rest of the time.

Airfield tracks are great to push the car at corners as nothing to hit apart from a few cones and nice flat green grass to run off to, but never once ventured on the grass or hit a cone, must try harder next time:thumbup:

But of course mate no problem. I'll email them over tomorrow.

'fraid your corner guess is way off. There was no way to get over that side of the circuit to ake pics and our zoom lens isn't THAT big. As far as i am aware it' the very slow right handed hair pin just in front of the pits!! :D

That's obvious now I look at it. How the heck did I get a rear wheel off the ground at about 20mph? I wonder if it happened every time - do you know? :)

i can't say i noticed it any other times and no other pics are on 3 wheels this may have just been a perfectly timed pic on a particularly aggresive turn in ;)

How the heck did I get a rear wheel off the ground at about 20mph?

20mph PAH!! should've managed at least 50 round that bit (in 4th lol) ;)

forgot to mention that after a full session of hooning around track I was more than happy with the 18-19mpg that was recorded especially as a lot of that was flat out (mostly the straights not the corners ;))

Also that while my other half was stood taking the above pictures by the (inflatable) signing on tent Ed Moore the organiser (and giver of "hilarious" welcome speech) approached her stating that "as she got out of one of the Fabias she must know why there were so many Skoda here today" a quick explanation of the Briskoda effect and she was told that "we should come more often as we are great fun!"

Ed might be worth mentioning that next time we book anyhting see if theres a "fun" discount available
