VAUXHALL Vectra 3.2 V6 GSi- Auto Trader UK

just found this, i know its a vauxhall but its a big car what i need with plenty of poke, and before anyone says anything i know the exhausts are pants  they will be getting changed, opinions needed though, cheers guys

hi mate, according to top gear, the vectra has LOTS of understeer

thought that was just the VXR, cant say im after it for its cornering abilities as i wouldnt be really driving round much like a loon, just power for junctions and joining motorways etc

if your after a bigger car with poke why dont ya go for a octy?

nice looin car though i must admit. will be heavy on juice though

it might just be the vxr, keep in mind though it is the same car/chassis and if anything the vxr will be better setup so would understeer not be then worse on the 3.2.

The 3.2 is a nice engine though it will be juicy if its like the old gsi lump.

Just drive one. Then you'll realise....

ive thought about the octy but just fancied something that wasnt a turbo, sounds daft i know but i like the power delivery of a non turbo, plus alot of the octy vrs ive looked at are bit more on both insurance and to buy, theres quite a good spec on that vectra, xenons, leather, cd changer, tinted windows

was looking at the engine bay though, looks immaculate

That looks quite nice. If I wanted something like that, I'd try to find a good Lotus Carlton. Now that would be even better.

I'd be happy to trundle round in one

but its NOT a vxr and with any car with alot of power going through the front wheels you are going to get some understeer if you drive it hard past a certain point. If they were that dangerous in the real world Vauxhall would have removed them from sale.

the vxr is a 2.8 v6 turbo with 280 bhp

the gsi is a 3.2 v6 with 208 bhp

im not completly clued up on the mechanics but im sure 72 extra bhp will make alot of difference in. as ive said aswell, its not a track car and i wont be driving it around hard enough to notice understeer, im not one for belting around bends and what not

For that price, if it's straight, you can afford to run it, and it ticks all your boxes then what's not to like?

It's a lot of car for the money

the exhausts!!! i showed the missus the car, she was yeah thats really nice, then i said im going to put you off and showed her the exhausts...... i like them she says:rofl: women!!

i do like the look of it, seems to get alot for your money, just wondered if anyone knew the reliability of the gsi engine, ive found vauxhalls are either one way or the other in terms of reliability

Those exhaust are at 1000 extra if i remeber correctly from Irmscher- Vauxhall approved extras- there is not a single after market thing on that car.

Just needs smoked sri lights- not those clear ones.

But you can watch the fuel gauge drop as you drive it

brother's girlfriend has one of the same age, it's well equipped, smooth, comfy and seems to do corners just fine (ignore the TopGear b*ll*cks) but it is thirsty - think something like 30mpg on a gentle run

what road tax band is it in ? really fancied a 220 st mondeo till i saw it was 450 a year tax mate.

if you like it , try and make your mind up , not sure it will be easy to sell on tho given the fuel costs.

There are loads you can choose, Lexus GS300, Mondeo ST220, Old BMW M5 (not sure on prices though)

To be honest, if your not bothered about MPG, then the Subaru Impreza is the one to choose. Its won car of the year so many times. Thats my opinion anyway.

As for the understeer, it still has a V6 Strapped to the front, which pretty much means its going to Nose Dive into the first hedge you come to. :)

Agree with the above, you could be looking at 01-02 'Bugeye' model Impreza WRX's for £4k. Look in the For Sale forums over on Scoobynet, SIDC and other enthusiast places for cherished cars which may have been well looked after, mod'd sensibly and driven with mechanical sympathy. A standard WRX was 215bhp, but the approved PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) took them to 250-260, reducing 0-62 from 5.6 to 5.2s and top up from 145 to 150mph. They are fantastically reliable, something which a Vauxhaul will never be. They are also amazingly rewarding to drive, and even with lots of power on tap, easy and quite flattering to the most novice of drivers. Of course, the performance available means if any lack of talent outweighs the cars ability then the mess made will be drastic. Stay clear of badly mod'd cars with induction kits and dump valves, but don't be put off by chassis and suspension mods. Contrary to popular belief, these cars don't actually handle well, they just have lots of grip, but it's easily and cheaply improved. Simple exhaust mods allied to a remap can easily get 270-290bhp. Look out for special edition UK300 models at this price too, but be wary of cars billed as 'Prodrive' which aren't. Some had the 'Prodrive Styling Pack' which is just cosmetic. Check in the handbook for the certificates of fitment. Remember as well, if you need a load-lugger, there is a 'wagon' estate version.

thanks for feedback guys, i was looking at subarus before but seems like a bit of a minefield with them, theyre either high milage or too pricey, also im worried if anything goes wrong the cost of repairs and insurance, the vectras only 600 quid on insurance, the imprezas are closer to 1200 for some reason, also pete i was after a st220 before i saw this car, the tax is 450 on cars built after 2006 i think, i checked on an 02 plate and tax was £150 a year, no idea how that works

Get a price for Scoob insurance from A-Plan (speak to Rob at the Thatcham office) or Keith Michaels Insurance (ask for Gary Moulson).

I used to pay £500 or so for THIS (all mods declared and covered), Leeds (expensive) postcode, 0 pts, 5+NCD, no conv.

It's not a minefield if you do your research. They have some differences to 'normal' cars, mainly the boxer engine and AWD layout. Apart from that, they are just cars, very fast, very reliable cars. Lots of friendly, helpful folk over on Scoobynet will do their best to guide you, just like on here.

nice motor that, id love something like that, im literally looking on auto trader right now aswell, ive gone on SIDC but didnt get a great deal of feedback so left it, im just paranoid over the one i drove that had every warning light flashing, really enjoyed it though and would love one

SIDC is a bit, er, cliquey TBH. Scoobynet is much better.

Avoid low post counts as they may be dealers chancing a sly ad, or people hiding a bad history under a new username. Click on the sellers name to view their previous posts so you can get an idea of what sort of person they are and how the car may have been treated. A bit of sly internet snooping can reveal secrets, one time I snook into someones (unlocked) Photobucket account and found pics of a car I was considering buried into a wall  There's plenty out there for sale, so you don't need to consider any if there's even the slightest worry.

Slightly over budget, but..... CLICKY

I believe the owner is Conrad Bradley of The Racing Line tuning shop in Halifax, and the car was his wifes.
