multichanger help needed

Featured Replies

hi guys, ive recently bought a mk1 octavia vrs and the multichanger doesnt seem to be working? its a standard set up as far as i can see and the radio tape player works fine. when i select the cd on the radio it detects the cd in which ever slot ive put the disc, but i cant get it to play? i suspect that maybe the motors had it or something, anyway i was wondering if some one could tell me if there is an adaptor plug / lead that will convert my standard skoda plug to an 8 pin din plug? i have an alpine six disc player that i now is in good working order and i could replace it with that providing i can find a way to convert the plug?

any help and advice you could give me would be a great help.:)

many thanks

nick

The skoda headunit can only control its own changers, or possibly panasonic ones as thats who makes the oem changer.

oh well, i guess thats that idea out of the window then :rotz:

Try cleaning the changer out with a vacuum cleaner (take it out of the boot and shake it first in case there are any loose parts!). Then stick one of those lens cleaner CDs in it.

If that doesn't do the trick then you can buy 2nd hand multichangers off of ebay from anywhere between £50 and £90, IIRC the ones from the Seat Leons, Golfs and Audi A3s are the same.

If it says check changer, then the above will sort it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought an 06 plate Octavia in February from a main dealership and had problems with my multichanger and HU which I flagged up at the time of purchase.

The HU skipped tracks and often came up with a CD ERROR so they swapped it out under warranty.

They also swapped the Multichanger out but the problem persisted (Low sound, going from speaker to speaker, music fairly audiable but voice muffled, buzzing on tracks).

It is now August and I still haven't got a working multichanger despite the car going in at least 6 times for the same problem. It came back yesterday, the engineer said all fixed, and still the same problem, Plus they haven't reinstalled my Parrot Hands Free Kit back into the car

Feel sorry for the Service Manager but it is me that is chasing this up constantly and I haven't yet had the issue resolved.

Does anyone know what might be the cause bearing in mind both the HU and CDC are brand new?

Also would appreciate the 'way ahead' here because although being a very laid back person my patience is wearing a little thin especially as the car goes back in next Tuesday again :rotz:

Hate to say it but that proble could be associated with the Parrott wiring that fits between the OE Quadlock connectors at the back of the headunit. From memory the standard parrott connections don't carry the multichanger connections through from the original Quadlocks so need the multichanger plug swapping over from the OE Quadlock to the Parrot Quadlock. It could be that this hasn't been done properly or that, instead of swapping the connector over some wiring has been spliced through incorrectly or with a grounding problem. I had something similar with mine albeit the multichanger wouldn't work full stop. I ended up getting it to a car audio specialist to sort it as the dealer didn't seem to understand the problem or want to sort it properly.

Thanks for the reply.

I had the problem from the offset of buying the car and had the Parrot kit fitted a couple of months after purchase. However it did have a hands free kit in there when I bought it.

My Skoda dealer are having it again tomorrow (and Wednesday if need be as I am sleeping off nights) and going to see what they can do for the umpteenth time :rotz:

It is taking a lot of 'person' and 'car' hours so hopefully this time it will get sorted.

By the way did you have to pay your own way for the audio specialist to sort it out because my motor is still under warranty.

Yes I did pay my own way - the dealer I purchased from was in Liverpool and I'm in Sheffield so we came to an agreement that I would get it sorted locally and they would pay. In the end the local dealer didn't want to know as they hadn't fitted it so I got the specialist to sort it and never got round to claiming it back - cost was £70 but that included the kit being hardwired rather than using the Parrott quadlocks as that removes the need to swap the OE plugs over and in theory should give better quality sound.

Thanks for the information.

Regrettably they rang at 08:00 this morning and both technicians are off work (illness) so nothing can be done until probably tomorrow.

Also received a PM this morning with an opition to use seeing that the car remains under warranty and therefore includes the audio equipment. I will keep you posted.

Car went in on Wednesday and 3 technicians worked on it and the problem remains.

They tried both my HU and MC in another Octavia and it played fine. They put the other Octavias equipment in mine and the same problem occured.

They have changed everything now except the speakers.

So still not resolved and now problem been reported to the head honco's at Skoda to see if they can come up with a solution.
