Cupra R engine

Featured Replies

Can anyone settle this arguement.

Is the 236 bhp engine fitted to the latest Cupra R fitted to any Skodas?

Thanks in anticipation.

No & Yes.

There is no Cupra R that EVER had 236bhp.

If you mean the Leon Cupra MK2 then the same engine is found in the vRS, just with different bits so doesnt have 236bhp.

Cheers for that!! So would the VRS engine be the 200bhp or not?

IIRC the later Cupra R had the 1.8T 225bhp (give or take) engine, courtesy of a bigger turbo than the standard Cupra, and twin SMICs (as opposed to the standard Cupra's single SMIC.

Yes :)

As said they dont make a Cupra R in the MK2, the Cupra has the same 2.0 TFSI engine as the ED30 Golf so runnng different pipe work and turbo etc to get 240ish bhp.

The Cupra R was a 1.8T with either 210 or 225 bhp depending on age.

Yeah, the new Cupra is listed as 240ps :)

It is, but shares everything minus the intercooler and upgraded fuel pump with the 265PS S3, so guess what bhp they make on a RR? Yup peak 265bhp give or take normally. They lack the mid-range pull over the S3 as the fuel pump isnt as good, but uprate than and with a nice remap and they see 310bhp+ which is rather nice id imagine.
