Dynamic DNS

Featured Replies

I'm currently paying rather alot of money for my capped internet connection with a single static IP address. I like the idea of having a static IP as it helps with the applications that I run from home that I need to access from anywhere but I've decided I need to try and cut my Internet bill which looks like I'm going to loose the static IP address hence looking into Dynamic DNS.

Do you use Dynamic DNS? Who do you use? What charges are involved? Ease of Use? Level of customer service (if you've had to call them)?

Thanks for your thoughts

Matthew

I used dyndns.org for a while and it basically just worked, at first I had a client on my PC which kept it updated with my current IP adress, later I had a router with the client built in. I no longer needed it so I don't have a login at the minute.

But basically it just works!

Hey Matt!! How ya doing? :)

Check out this thread from a while back?

HTH

I'm ok thanks. That link looks just the ticket.

Cheers

I use no-ip.org, and my router handles it all for me. I then just need to to VPN back to my router and issue a WOL command to what ever device it is I want to access externally.

I use dyndns.org as well. My website at OctaviaRS.co.uk Skoda Fansite redirects via dyndns to my server sitting at home. Most routers have the capability to automatically update dyndns with the appropriate IP address should it change. That said, I am with Virgin Cable and have had the same IP address for more than 18 months now, even though its dynamically alocated.

o2 broadband 8meg unlimited with static ip would only be £17 a month or £13 if you have an o2 phone as they seem to have unbundled you exchange (provided it is durkar in yorkshire)

Yep, was going to suggest Be for your static IP. That's who I use, and who O2 now own to provide their 'in-house' ISP service.

No caps, and good service.

Steve
