LCD TV Reccomendations?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Looking to purchase a new TV to play my PS3 on.

Not bothered about built in freeview, dvd players etc, its for gaming.

Must be no more than £350.

I am pretty close to buying this one.... as it has 5 year warranty?

Buy Samsung LE32B450C4W LCD HD Ready Digital Television, 32 Inch online at JohnLewis.com

Any good~?

My sisters BF has an LG 42" Plasma, which is very pretty, but too much for me and I've heard Plasma can suffer burn-in?

For gaming only go LCD, the samsung isnt that bad. The key thing is to get one with minumum input lag.

I game frequently with my 360 (guitar hero, rock band2) and dont have any issues with burn in whatsoever on my 42" Full HD panasonic plasma.

Samsungs are quite good in gaming mode.

To be honest, i dont think you can go far wrong, as long as you get a brand name TV, with as many inputs as possible (100hz/200hz TVs are definitely best if you can afford one)

That said, i would always find a shop with the TV i want, and try the normal applications (SD, HD, Gaming) on it, and just make sure your happy, as different people prefer a different style of picture.

Was thinking about getting one myself last week, and after visiting Currys, and seeing what a mine-field it is out there, I decided to consult one of my neighbours who is a TV engineer, and he said...."DON'T BOTHER...they are all a waste of money, and the picture quality is nowhere near as good as a traditional tube TV" !!!

TBH I have to agree with him... we currently have a 28" Sanyo tube TV which is about 5 years old, and the picture quality is far superior to any LCD/PLASMA that I have seen, and the kids Wii plays on it just fine :):).

TBH i would have been inclined to agree I've been playing my PS3 on a late model 28" Sony Trinitron through the S-Video for months but after seeing my sister's BF's 42" Plasma with HDMI cable playing COD WAW I've got to go HD.

Does the TV engineer ever play games consoles that run at a higher resolution than the Wii though? For receiving standard broadcast TV I'd agree with him, but the difference between PAL resolutions and 1080p when gaming is huge.

Id agree with reference to Standard Def content. Finding a TV with a great SD picture is a nightmare, its only the real high end stuff that can match a non-HD CRT picture.

All the HD screens you can buy, especially the cheap stuff have been designed for HD, everything else is an after thought.

If you have Sky+HD, Virgin HD, a Bluray player, PS3, or Xbox 360, then a HD LCD TV will be a fantastic purchase, and you'll fall in love with it very quickly. If not, id recommend sticking with CRT until you have one.

Went for the Samsung in the end as they seem to sell a lot more units and get more write ups :)

Hi all just a quick note to say got my TV on Saturday, after the order went through Thursday, and had it set up Sunday spent about an hour adjusting the settings going off reccommendations online and it looks absolutely fantastic.

If anyone is looking for a decent LCD TV at a good price then got the samsung B450 you wont be disappointed its very pretty and no screen lag in game mode that I can pick up on.

Be prepared to alter the settings a bit though!

Its great, and with the 5 year warranty it gives a bit of piece of mind on a £350 item. :)
