Auxiliary drive belt. Which one?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am new here. I have bought a lovely Fabia 2 weeks ago.

The drive belt looks very worn.

I would like to buy a new one to get it changed, but I cannot find it with the exact size.

The old one in my car is a 5PK 1215 size belt.

Can I replace it with a 5PK 1220 belt? Or it will not fit?

My car is a 2002 Fabia 1.4 MPi 8V without aircon.

Maybe this is a stupid question but thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Briskoda. :)

The only suggestion I have is I think there may be 2 types of belt, one with Air conditioning and one for the basic Fabia without air-con (much shorter). The other suggestion is it's the newer version of the belt. If there is only a slight difference in length than the old one, then you may get away with it by adjustment. I have never changed the belt on a Fabia so don't know how much there is. The important thing about the belts is width.

First I will say "good man" for actually looking for the manufacturer's part number on the belt - that is always the best starting point. I'd reckon that if you go to Skoda then make sure that you leave with a belt that includes these numbers as they are the industry standard method of identifying a belt. Next, if you try for aftermarket locally, I would expect that you will find that the belt range held will have be rationised to cut stock holding - and that should mean that your application could quite easily accept a belt that was 5mm longer. The belt for cars without A/C I'd expect would be a lot shorter than the A/C one. Maybe have a look on the website of belt manufacturers to find your part - try Continental - ie www.contitec.de somewhere in there there is an application guide.
