Cracked Paint?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I washed my car on the weekend, and noticed a patch on the roof near the back of the car that looks like the paint is cracking (I had to alter the photo in photoshop so it stands out a little.....)

If I rub my finger over it I can feel a certain roughness to it

Any Idea's on what I can do

Over to the Detailing Guru's......

Thanks

Steve

BTW, it's never had any repairs done to it, I have owned it since new (7 years this year)

And yes, it was raining in unsunny wales......

Bird poo?

Hmm, I'm not saying it isn't as I keep her pretty clean as a rule

But can't rule it out, I went to Oz for a month earlier in the year, so she was left standing, but can't recall any.....

Anyone got any Idea's

or is it too deep

Like I said, I can feel a pattern if I rub my finger over it.....

Difficult to say without seeing it in the flesh. You could try Farecla G3 cutting paste, followed by AG SRP then a wax.

I'm not sure if your car is solid red, or if it has a clearcoat? If it has clearcoat you have to be careful not to strike through to the paint.

It definitely looks like some form of etching, bird poo, or industrial fallout. If above process doesn't shift it, it may need to be wet sanded with 2,000 wet and dry, then machine polished to restore the finish.

looks like some sort of etching - like bird poop (as above)

Have you owned the car from new? Maybe the previous owner didn't bother cleaning off the bird poo?

Do you live near the fallout from Llanwern steelworks? - could be acid rain...:-)

Thanks guy's, will give the paste a whirl.....

That's the thing, I can't remember Bird Poo on there, but the kids on the estate are not exactly "Little Angels" either

Ho Hum....

From the picture its hard to see but (as above) it looks pretty much like etching from a bird scat, depending on the depth a cutting compound may well remove it but usually its not an even depth of etch and it may leave pitting underneath. Worst case scenario it may require a wee wetsand, if your not confident with that then I would leave it to someone else, but worth giving a coumpound a try first.
